Coffee Nightmare - Part 2

Steve flung his shield at the beast for what felt like the thousandths time, letting out a pant of air as it flew right back at him. He caught it in one swift motion, face grim. Each hit only took off a small piece of thick armor and he felt like he wasn't helping as much as he should.

The good thing was that the battle was nearly over. He hadn't gotten a name for the monster yet as Thor stayed high above ground, bringing about lightening strikes from the dark sky. They nearly blinded Steve each time, but they made a lot more progress.

Tony was also making good progress. Every few seconds, Steve would see him soaring about in daring loops and raining down blasts from his gauntlets. It was a spectacle that would be entertaining if the beast weren't still destroying things.

Natasha and Clint had evacuated everyone and then separated. The spy duo could work together seamlessly, but they had different talents that would be very useful in this battle.

The red head stayed on the ground, zig zagging between the tall legs of the monster and quickly stabbing it every chance she got with her Widow Bites on high voltage. It might not have done much damage, but it annoyed the beast and distracted it.

Clint was up high, either standing on a fire escape or on top of a building, firing off arrows left and right. His supply seemed endless.

Finally, they had made enough breakage in the armor for their to be a clear shot.

"Let's wrap it up, guys." He said into the comms.

"Aye, captain! I shall fry him like a fish then send him back to the dungeons of the nine realms!" The thunder god bellowed.

Tony cackled over the comms, but it had an underlined forced tone that showed just how tired the genius was becoming without coffee.

"Captain," Director Fury's voice came over the intercom as the sky darkened with clouds as Thor prepared his greatest lightening strike to stun their foe.

"Yes, sir?" He asked, silently doing a head count of all his teammates.

"The helicarrier will be there in a few minutes, but we are experiencing some... minor difficulties."

Steve realized just how bad this day was going. No coffee in the tower, a monster attack, and now the helicarrier was bugged.

It had to be the coffee's fault.

.

It took nearly an hour for the helicarrier to arrive. Thor had to go back to Asgard with the giant on the Bifrost, but promised to be back before nightfall.

For the rest of them, they helped clean up. One they could do nothing more, they sat on the sidewalk to wait for their ride.

In Clint's head, he thought of it as a broken down taxi. He started laughing at the image, getting a few looks from the team.

Tony had gotten out of the armor, but the archer almost thought he should stay in it if only to stand up right without a chance of falling, or less of a chance. The genius was almost dead on his feet without coffee, the fight having seemingly burned his reckless energy out of him.

Today seemed like it had hydra heads for every problem. Solve one, two came up.

After an agonizing wait, the helicarrier finally came, descending ad far as it could in the city and sending down a platform to get them.

Clint could definetly see where the 'bugs' were. Minor difficulties? It looked like the helicarrier had been through a volcano on the right side.

One engine was clearly not working and as they got closer he could see the propeller moving forward about three feet only to move backward the same amount in a rough jerk. The side was completely scorched and just nicked the other engine.

Tony was mumbling math problems under his breath and Clint may not be a super genius like him, but he thought that some weren't even relevant to what was going to be needed to fix the helicarrier.

Considering one of the words the genius mumbled was 'cupcakes', he doubted Tony would even be coherent enough to fix a toaster.

He hoped there was coffee available for the sure to be boring debriefing about to be held.

Natasha grabbed onto his shoulder suddenly and he looked back as she stumbled.

"Whoa, red," Tony said, jerking up at the movement. He and Clint held out their arms to steady her if she fell, the archer extending the arm she wasn't holding onto.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," she insisted as they entered the hangar. "Let's just get this debriefing over with."

Tony and Clint shared a look with each other, but let the matter drop. They knew Natasha, and both knew she would close off if they kept pushing.

Steve had also noticed, and looked about ready to call Bruce, who'd been on stand by at the controls of the helicarrier during the battle and was almost definetly with Fury or Maria Hill right now.

Clint shook his head and Steve reluctantly turned to lead them to their usual debriefing room.
