It's 9:36PM and it's too early to go to bed, but I'm choking on disappointments, loneliness, and the future, so I'd rather sleep than to feel dead.

I had decided to stay with Luke for the night before gathering up the courage and get my ass back over to the apartment complex tomorrow. It is times like these that I realize that life would be so much easier if I didn't care so much.

I sigh heavily through my nose before reaching over to the bedside table to grab my phone. Once the cellular device is in my grasp, I bring it towards me. I click the home button before sliding my finger across the screen to unlock the phone. I inhale quickly as my eyes scan over the messages- all from Madison.

08:23am: hey maegan please come back

08:23am: maegan we need to talk about this, please

08:25am: you can't ignore me forever, you know

I sigh heavily before returning to my messages and opening Michael's contact. I sit up, criss-crossing my legs in the process before looking to my left to find a sleeping Luke. I smile softly down at his peaceful figure before getting up from the bed and walking into the hallway. I click the call button and place the phone to my ear, the familiar ringing making its way into my head.

"Hello?" A groggy sounding Michael answers.

"Hey," I reply, bringing my free hand up to run my fingers through my hair, tugging at it slightly.

"What's up? It's like, 3 in the morning, you know," he replies, yawning after.

"Yeah, yeah, I know, but, uh..." I trail off and look down the hall before taking in a quick breath of air. "Madison and Calum are dating, it's true." I didn't plan for my voice to crack, but it did. And I didn't plan for tears to begin to threaten to fall from my eye sockets, but they did.

"Maegan," Michael says softly, "okay, um, hold on and wait outside of Luke's house. I'll be there in a minute and we can talk."

"Okay, see you then."
