"When last did you sleep?" Cameron asked me when I joined them on the battle grounds.
"How bad is it?" I asked softly, wiping my face with my hands.
"It is not really noticeable." He replied, shrugging his shoulders.
"I haven't sleep well in three days. It must be the stress of what might happen. I am scared, Cam." I confessed truthfully.
Cameron's eyes roamed across the training grounds where wolves and vampires alike trained and fought against each other. His eyes came back to me.
"We all are. If another war breaks out, there will be plenty of losses." He said and I saw the fear flash in his eyes.
There was a moment of silence where Cameron and I just stared at the training grounds.
"I guess I need to go train with the others." Cameron suddenly spoke and broke the stretching silence.
I waved him goodbye and made my way to one of the training grounds when a tall figure caught my eye. I eyed the guy suspiciously and walked over to him. He was leaning against one of the trees surrounding the training grounds with his arms folded over his chest.
"Adam, surprised to see you here." I said when I stopped right in front of him.
"How did you manage to get the vampires on your side?" He asked and those beautiful sea-green eyes of his, stared straight into my soul.
"You can find that I am very persuasive," I joked, "We formed an allegiance. They are as afraid as we are about what Eros might have in store." I replied truthfully and teared my gaze away from him, folding my arms and looking at the groups doing training.
"I heard about Eros and The Valkeries. Your father talked to my father about it and I happened to be close by." Adam said which made me look at him again.
"He has grown stronger, very stronger. I am really afraid of what he might be capable of. If he comes for us and we're not ready..." I stopped speaking when images of such an unfortunate tragedy flooded my mind. I let my eyes drop to the floor where I played with my foot in the soil.
"Got an opening for one more wolf?" He popped the question randomly.
My eyes darted straight to him and I arched my eyebrows in suspicion.
"Your father didn't tell you to do this, did he?" I asked and unfolded my arms.
"No," Adam chuckled and I liked the sound of it, "I came to ask you out of my own free will."
"Well, I guess you could join in," I laughed but then turned serious, "We need all the help we can get."
He placed a hand on my shoulder and I turned my head to him. We made direct eye-contact and I gave a small smile. He returned the smile and my insides ignited.
"Come on, I have the perfect partner for you." I said and grabbed hold of his wrist, leading him through the people towards Cameron, who was busy instructing a wolf on how to pin down a vampire correctly.
"Cam, I have a partner for you," I said and let go of Adam's wrist, "Cameron meet Adam and Adam meet Cameron."
They shook hands but something in there body language made me eye them curiously.
"Well anyway, I am going to find Mr Phobes so we can train. Just try not to kill each other, okay?" I told them and walked away to find the leader of the vampires.
"Audrey, there you are." Mr Phobes smiled when he saw me walking his way.
"Sorry, Mr Phobes. I just got a partner for Cameron. Mr Phobes, do you know Adam Hunter. He is one of us?" I asked while tightening my pony.
"No, sorry. I never heard of him," Mr Phobes said, "Why do you ask Audrey?"
"I just wondered if you knew if something happened between Cameron and him. He is Cameron's new partner but there is tension between them. I sensed it." I said while stretching, getting ready for training.
"No, sorry. I know of nothing between them," Mr Phobes shrugged, "Perhaps it has to do with something else."
"Like what?" I asked, my full attention directed to him.
"Love." Mr Phobes gave a satisfied smile.
"Love? I don't understand." I confessed.
Mr Phobes chuckled and placed his hand on my lower back, leading me to an angle where I could see Adam and Cameron fighting. They really fought well against each other.
"Can't you see? Cameron undoubtedly likes you and after hearing what you said to me earlier on, so does Adam." Mr Phobes told me.
"Why would they fight over me?" I asked absent-minded, watching Adam and Cameron fighting.
"It is love, Audrey, love." Mr Phobes said wisely.
**********
It was after sun down and we had finished training. Everyone was busy packing their stuff, some stood in groups talking about the day's training. Others were going their seperate ways to get home. I was weaving in and out of the people, stopping by some to ask them how training went. I was satisfied with everyone's replies.
"Audrey." I turned around and saw Cameron walking up to me.
"Hey Cam," I said, "I heard training with Adam was rough."
"He is strong, I can't deny that." Cameron chuckled awkwardly and ran his hand through his hair.
"I haven't seen him this strong before. I guess that is what the loss of a loved one does to you." I said, the words just rolled off of my tongue.
"What?" Cameron asked confused.
"Oh, nothing. I was just thinking out loud. Go get some rest and I will see you on Monday." I tried to cover up my tracks.
"Thank you. Be safe and see you Monday." Cameron left and I stood and watched him disappear into the darkness of the forest.
