I ran as fast as I could into the woods. The cold air stung my face where the tears left wet marks.
"Eros! Eros, I know you are here! Show yourself!" I shouted up into the trees, stopping to wipe off my tears.
"You called?" Eros appeared behind me and gave a smirk.
"I am challenging you to a duel. If I win you leave and never come back." I said determined.
"And if I win?" He shot me another one of his evil smirks.
"I step down and you take on the title as alpha. Then I will leave and never return."
I knew what I was doing was risky, but I felt like I had to do it, like I had to make my father proud, even the thought of him made me cry.
"When is this challenge?" He asked arrogantly.
"The night of the next full moon." I replied.
"I will see you then, sweetheart." He winked and disappeared into the trees.
I let out a breath that I have been holding in since I came into woods. I blew out the last bit of strength and positivity I had in that breath. I started sobbing and fell onto my knees. My whole world was falling apart, first Cameron and then my father. After hours of sitting on the forest floor, crying, I decided to head home. A pair of arms nearly slammed me off my feet as I stepped into the house.
"Audrey, I was so worried about you. Please don't run off like that again." My mother said in a teary tone and soothed down my wild hair.
I cried into her shoulder while hugging her with all the strength I could master. I could feel her heartache and sadness. It washed over me like a downpour. My mother let me go and I caught sight of Adam. He ran to me and hugged me, lifting me off my feet.
"I am so sorry for your loss, Audrey." He said soothingly and gave me a passionate kiss before placing me back on my feet.
"I am going to go upstairs to my room." I said shyly and waved them a goodnight before walking up the stairs to my room. I closed it behind me and slid down to the floor. I buried my face in my knees and began crying again.
"Audrey, it's Adam, open up." I heard knocking on door.
"Hey." I gave a weak smile when I pulled the door open for him.
The moment he stepped into the room, he pulled me into a bear hug. I broke down the emotional walls I build up and cried into his chest. His arms tightened around my waist. He held me at arm length and wiped away the tears with his thumbs before leading me to my bed. I sat down in the middle of my bed and crossed my legs while Adam made himself comfortable at the edge of my bed. We sat talking about nonsense and the conversation slowly evolved into my emotions and feelings.
"Why do bad things keep happening to me, Adam? I am losing everyone I care about, everyone I love." I played with the pom-poms on my pillow.
"You are not losing me." He assured me.
I looked up from my pillow and we made direct eye-contact. I gave him a loving smile and he returned one. I threw myself on him and hugged him tightly. He laughed and fell back into the bed, holding me around my waist. I cuddled into his chest and he threw the covers over us before he held me tightly against him.
"Adam?" I asked softly after giving a yawn.
"Yes?" He replied and brushed his fingers through my hair.
"Promise you will never leave me?" I asked and lifted my head up from his chest.
"I, Adam Hunter, promise to you that I will never leave you." He said romantically and pulled me in for a kiss.
**********
I shifted into my snowy white wolf and headed to the training grounds for some early morning training. I had to clear my head. With all the recent happenings, my head was a mess. I looked out over the training grounds and had to stop myself from crying as memories with my father came flooding back. I shook myself together and started my training all by myself.
"Audrey, where have you been?" Adam had waited me in when I returned home.
"I went training." I said innocently and walked into the house.
"Waking me up and informing me you were heading out would have sufficed. I was worried sick about you." Adam followed me into the house and crossed his arms.
"I am sorry, okay. Next time I will wake you up and tell you that I am training." I turned around with the sugar pot in my hand. "Want some?" I asked, inclining my head to the kettle.
"No, I am heading back to bed." He stated coldly and walked up the stairs.
"Suit yourself." I whispered and carried on making myself some coffee.
I heard him scoff on his way to his room and flinched when his door slammed shut. I put my cup down on the counter and headed up to his room.
"Adam, opened up." I knocked on the door and leaned against the frame.
Adam opened his door and allowed me inside. I rubbed my arm nervously and turned towards him when he came walking up to me after he closed the door.
"I am sorry, Adam, for not telling you where I was going." I looked at the floor in guilt. "I thought no one would notice."
"I can easily pick up when your scent fades away. You are my mate, Audrey." He ran his hands over my arms and his sea-green eyes bored into mine which set my insides on fire.
