The darkness surrounded me like a blanket. The only light which lit my surroundings were the twinkling stars above me. The light breeze prickled my fur as I stood on the training grounds, the wind weaving through my white fur. After Adam had left, I gave up with my training. I had nothing left to fight for. I mentally surrendered to Eros.
"Audrey, you can't give up. Your pack needs you. Everyone needs you."
I quickly spun around to the sound of the voice. It sounded so familiar. I walked towards the trees. I morphed and stood on my two feet. Cameron stepped out of the trees, looking directly at me. I stumbled backwards in a fright and clasped my hands over my mouth.
"It's me, Cameron." He said and smiled happily.
"But you're dead..." I replied cautiously, I was afraid that it was one of Eros' traps.
"I was, but I am alive now, well technically because vampires are kind of dead." He chuckled and ran his hand through his hair, his eyes twinkling under the moonlight.
At that gesture I knew it was Cameron. I let out a relieved sigh and ran to him, flinging myself onto him. I hugged him tightly, squeezing him against me.
"I knew Eros couldn't have killed you." I backed away and wiped away my tears.
"I don't really know what happened that night. Phobes said that I was in a deep sleep. I know it sounds pathetic, but he honestly doesn't know what exactly happened." Cameron tried to explain to help me understand more or less why he returned.
"I am just so glad you're back! I missed you so much." I said tearfully.
"It feels good to be back." Cameron smiled. "Where's Adam?"
"Adam and his father left and headed back to the south. They had matters to take care of." I replied vaguely.
I saw Cameron raise his eyebrows and I knew he did not believe what I said, or rather, he knew there was more behind the story. I gave a deep sigh,!because I knew he would keep nagging if I did not tell him.
"I distanced myself after my father's death, from him too. He didn't like it, because I used to get mad at him for shutting me out. I totally screwed up, didn't I?" I asked Cameron as I realised what I had said.
"It is not love if there is no fighting or misunderstandings. Love means you work through those flaws and imperfections." Cameron replied sounding very intelligent which made me chuckle softly.
"It's good to have you back, Cam." I walked over to him and gave him a tight hug.
"So, are you going to destroy Eros or not?" He asked as he held me at arm length.
"Let's do this!" I exclaimed confidently.
**********
"Okay Cam, I think that is enough for today." I shifted and stood with my hands on my knees, out of breath.
"Just one more round, Audrey, just one more." He motivated me.
I stood up straight and blew out a breath before I shifted and started running through the woods again, going down the path I have been going down for the last couple of hours. I finished my run and stopped infront of Cameron and breathed heavily. He bent down and gave me a stroke behind my ear and gave me a kiss on my furry forehead.
"Well done! You are looking great." He praised me.
I gave an excited howl before I morphed back and threw myself on Cameron. I gave him a bear hug before I let go.
"Thank you for all your help, Cam. I couldn't have carried on without your support, not to mention the support from everyone else." I shot him a grateful smile.
"Anytime." He returned the smile.
"What do you think? Am I ready for the battle?" I asked and raised my eyebrows playfully.
"You are going to beat Eros' ass." He held out his hand for a high five and I obliged happily.
It was around 9 pm and I was sitting on my bed reading a book when a notification came through on my phone. I switched on my phone and saw that it was a Facebook notification. It was a memory from a few years ago with Adam. I stared at the photo with a heavy heart before I deleted it from my timeline as silent tears ran down my cheek, having a race to see which tear could be the first to fall onto my screen. I hastily wiped them away when my door swung open.
"Hey honey, are you ready for tomorrow night?" My mom asked as she positioned herself on the foot of my bed.
"I guess I am. Cameron and I trained again today and he says I've gotten better. I just hope that it is good enough to stop Eros and his whole pack." I answered vaguely.
"I believe in you, we all believe in you and we know that you will make us proud." My mother gave me a pat on the back.
"I am just scared I will let everyone down, mother. What if I lose against Eros and I have to leave and never return? This place, the place we all love so dearly, will belong to Eros." I stared at my fingers while I fiddled with them.
"You mustn't speak like that, Audrey. I have seen you training and I speak for all of us when I say that you will win Eros tomorrow night." My mother caressed my shoulders.
"Thanks mother. I really appreciate all the support I am given. I just wish father was here to comfort me and tell me everything is going to be okay." I sighed wearily.
"Oh honey, he is always here." My mother pulled me into a hug and gave me a kiss on the forehead.
