The Attack

"Adam, please wait! Adam!" I yelled, running after him into the woods.

"Why? So you can tell me all about how the kiss felt?" Adam asked while walking farther into the woods.

"He kissed me, Adam. I didn't ask for it. I love you." I kept walking after him and grabbed his wrist.

"Why didn't you pull away?" Adam asked, staring into my eyes.

I parted my lips to reply when we heard the crackling of leaves. I let go of Adam's wrist. Drey's senses came through and we could smell Eros' scent. A low growl came from somewhere in the darkness, but not just one, about six growls. For some reason I couldn't morph into my wolf. I knew it was Eros' magic that kept me from transforming.

"Look what we have here?" Eros smirked the moment he became visible.

"Just leave my friends and family alone, Eros." I said impatiently and stood in front of Adam to protect him, "What do you want?"

"You know exactly what I want, Audrey. You are a clever girl." Eros replied and let out a dry laugh.

The wolves that were with him came out of the shadows and growled hungrily at me and Adam.

"Kill them." Eros commanded.

The wolves came running at us and I managed to transform after several attempts. I ran into the pack of wolves and started fighting. I knew Adam had transformed too, because I could hear his wolf growling. After several minutes of fighting we heard our pack coming into the woods. Eros' wolves retreated, but not before one sank his canines into my stomach and neck. I morphed back to human and laid motionless on the ground, blood oozing from my stomach and neck. Adam came running towards me and fell to his knees next to me. He picked up my head and hoisted it onto his lap.

"Audrey, Audrey can you hear me?" He asked and cupped my face.

"Adam..." I whispered hoarsely.

"Audrey, stay with me." He tried to keep me awake.

"Adam, I am so sorry about what happened between me and Falco. It meant nothing, I love you." I managed to get out hoarsely in between my coughing.

I tried to keep my eyes open, but they were too heavy. I closed my eyes and laid motionless on Adam's lap. He started crying and held my head in his hands.

"Audrey, don't leave me please." he pleaded. "I love you too."

He gave me a kiss on the lips. It was a wet kiss, because he was crying. My father, the lead Warrior and the Warriors came running towards me and Adam. My father morphed back to his human form and knelt down next to me.

"What happened?" He asked, staring at Adam in shock.

"Eros, he ambushed us. She tried to protect me." Adam cried and his eyes fell to my face.

My father beckoned the warriors to come closer and carry me home. My father turned back to Adam before he stood up.

"You come with me." He said sternly and started walking back to the house.

**********

"What were you doing in the woods at this hour?" My father asked Adam while he paced up and down in his study.

"We had a fight, Alpha Tyrik. Falco kissed her in the kitchen and I saw it. She tried to explain, but I didn't let her. Instead I ran into the woods. This is all my fault, isn't it?" Adam looked up from his lap.

"No, Adam. This is nobody's fault. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but something has to be done about Eros. We can't afford to lose more people." My father stopped pacing and leaned on his desk.

"Alpha Tyrik, Eros is powerful. We can't stop him without Audrey. She is the one destined to kill him." Adam said and fiddled with his hands.

"You noticed it too?" My father asked, eyeing Adam curiously.

"Yes, Alpha. She has some hidden power beyond anything I have ever seen before or even thought incapable of, but her powers are enigmatic." Adam replied and looked up into my father's eyes.

"She hasn't developed her powers. She doesn't even know about them and I want to keep it that way." My father stated and sat down in his seat.

"Why alpha? She can stop Eros and his whole pack of vampires and wolves with those powers." Adam said with confidence.

"I know she can, but look what happened to your sister because of her powers. Adam, I know your sister didn't die because of an illness." My father stared at Adam knowingly.

"Alpha Tyrik, her powers were different. They were dark and uncontrollable. She was cursed with them, but Audrey's powers are pure and bright." Adam replied softly and stared at his lap to hide the tears.

"I am just scared what the powers may do to her, Adam. I don't want my daughter turning into someone like Eros because of the hunger for power." My father confessed truthfully.

The door to my father's study opened and one of the Healers stepped in, lowering her head in respect. My father gave a nod and she looked up.

"Audrey is awake, Alpha."

My father and Adam ran out of the study heading for my room. They burst into my room and walked to my bedside. My father sat down on one of the couches near my bed.

"Father?" I gulped.

"Shhh Audrey. You mustn't speak or you will damage your vocal cords." My father said caringly.

"How bad is it?" I asked softly and ran my hand over the bandages around my neck.

"The bites are deep in your flesh, but nothing is damaged. You just need to rest and you will heal perfectly." The Healer told me, but loud enough for my father and Adam to hear.

"Thank you." I nodded and the Healer left me alone with Adam and my father.

"You rest and heal, okay princess?" My father said to me.

"I will, father." I replied and gave a smile when he kissed me on the forehead before sitting back on the couch.
