Chapter 5: I Totally Don't Care About You

D won't talk to me, I'm kinda surprised. He's usually too stubborn to leave me alone when something like this happens, which makes me feel worse because I've never had him give me the silent treatment before. I guess I kinda deserve it, but I don't have time for this I've gotta get ready for school. I drag myself to the bathroom after getting dressed and brush my fringe back over my eyes. While doing my makeup I glance out the window through the crack in the blinds to check the weather, but what I see is a black cat on my windowsill. I can only hope it's him.

I smile down at my phone and grab all my school stuff then wait for Roman to arrive. It's weird having Roman walk me to school, usually Deceit would walk alongside me as a rat or fly above me as a bluebird and make sure I don't die on my way in. As Roman and I walk I get that feeling of being watched again and I look up to see a bluebird flying overhead. Please be him, I really hope he doesn't hate me, I mean he has every right to but i just hope he can see past this.
"What's on your mind Storm Cloud?" lRoman takes my hand as we walk down the alleyway, I sigh.
"How do you do that?" I say.
"Do what?" He cocks an eyebrow.
"Read my mind like that." Roman smiles proudly to himself, (which is...kinda cute I guess.)
"I've known you for too long not to be able to tell when something's up. So what's up?" I shove my hands in my pockets.
"It's a long story." I stare off into the distance, like in those cheesy movies and see the school ahead of us.
"You can't just leave it at that, now I'm curious'" He exclaims, I just smile with a hand over my mouth.
"I'll tell you after school."
"I can't wait that long." He whines, I roll my eyes and kiss his cheek.
"You're gonna have to." He groans and we walk into school.

It's first period and after a few minutes of doing the work my mind starts to wander. I stare out the window and there he is again, watching my every move with piercing eyes. After what feels like an eternity, we leave school.
"So what was bothering you this morning Hot Topic?" Roman says, I sigh at him I don't even think I've ever mentioned Deceit to him. This is gonna take forever, so I start rambling. (after telling him who the hell I was talking about.) "So lemme get this straight, well as straight as possible." He smiles to himself and I roll my eyes. "Your thousand year old friend is mad at you but has been following you around all day because he's a shapeshifter."
"Yeah..."
"So do you have a weird vampower."
"Never refer to it as a 'vampower' ever again and yes." He looks at me in anticipation. "No I'm not gonna tell you what it is." I say and he pouts at me. "Pouting won't change my mind Ro."
"Ugh enough secrets, just tell me."
"No." I grumble.
"Why?"
"Because...it's embarrassing." I mumble, blushing now.
"Alright, if I promise not to laugh will you tell me?" I hesitate.
"No." I smirk, seeing how frustrated Roman's getting.
"Ugh fine."

That night I go hunting alone again and as I step into the silent forest, I hear a rustling in the bushes. I freeze up and scan my surroundings. A fox with yellow eyes circles me, and when I blink there stands Deceit (visibility pissed off.)
"Hey D." I stare at the ground, Deceit stands with his arms folded and starring at me unimpressed.
"Hello Virgil."
"W-What are you doing here?" I'm scared of what his answer might be.
"Looking out for you." He smirks. "As usual." He's smiling now, I look up nervously from the ground.
"So...you're not mad?"
"I was, but that's only because I was scared...I didn't want to let my fear stop me from protecting you, I'm not making the same mistake twice Virge." We both smile at each other and race back home, it scares me how much I can overthink something so small.
