I wake up tied to a wall in a dark room I don't recognise, I call out for someone, anyone. That's when I hear footsteps echoing closer and closer, I sniff the air to try and identify the person and I can't believe it.
"Roman?!"
"Shut up freak!" He kicks me in the stomach and I double over, the chains suspending my arms up above my head. "I've waited so long for this day Virgil." My eyes sting and I feel a tightness in my stomach as tears threaten to fall. "Father said to wait a little longer to lure you in but...I thought now would be a great time. Seeing as you're catching on so fast."
"R-Roman" He kicked me again till I spat blood.
"Lick it up baby, lick it up." The room falls silent and Roman walks off as I cry softly to myself. He comes back moments later with a wooden stake clutched in its fist, he says something I couldn't quite make out and holds me down. I struggle against his grip but he's stronger and he drives it straight through my chest.

I wake up in a cold sweat, clutching my sheets and breathing heavily. "Jesus Christ..." I whisper to myself in the darkness. I lie back down and stare up at the ceiling, another nightmare. This one was more graphic, more dramatic like a bad soap opera. These dreams are getting a lot more frequent, I'm starting to get the bad feeling they mean something. Beep beep beep, I shut off my alarm and tumble out of bed. How convenient, my nightmare woke me up just in time for school. After getting dressed I head downstairs to see dad sipping a coffee.
"Virgil, when was the last time you saw Roman?"  Shit, think fast.
"Uh, quite a while ago actually."
"Why's that?" I shrug at him.
"Probably busy with the school play or something." He looks slightly suspiciously of me. "Why'd you ask?" He goes quiet.
"Just curious, now get going." I grab my bag and head out the door, I thought knowing what was going on would help but it's just made everything worse. Now I'm stuck uncovering case after case.

After school I head over to Logan's again, he said something about researching vampires.
"I don't know how I could've missed something like this but Virgil you're in danger."
"What?"
"Well when vampires are under threat they usually go on a sort of purge to insure the enemy is gone. I fear something like this might happen if you're dad feels you're under threat." I go numb. "I'm not saying it will however, it's a possibility." I can barely breathe at this point, Logan still has his eyes glued to his laptop. "Just something I thought you should be aware of."
"Shit, L what the fuck am I gonna do?" He puts a hand on my shoulder to try and pause my thoughts.
"Who said you're doing this alone?"
. . .

Sicilia stands across from me in the kitchen. "You can't possibly be planning a hunt right now!" I'm not looking at her.
"I'm doing what's best for our family." I say calmly.
"Honestly, maybe mama was right about vampires."
"Look, this is how we do things, if you don't like it you're welcome to leave."
"No Lucas, I can't! If I leave you'll make a mess of this! God knows what it'll do to Virgil!"
"I'm doing this for his own good!" I slam my fist on the desk and bare my teeth.
"Lucas don't throw a tantrum, you know this is a bad idea." She scowls, but I know what's best right now.
"Then what'd you say we do?" I try to calm myself down but I'm still scowling.
"Nothing, he's caused us no trouble this far-"
"I'm not taking that chance Sissy. I sit back down and she sighs at me.
"Please just think, Lucas...think about how this will effect us, not you, not vampires. Us, your family." She turns and heads upstairs in silence. Deceit said that boy's family are dangerous, they're known killers to our kind. I'll not have my son be anywhere near someone like him. Besides Virgil has no idea, he probably already thinks Roman hates him, they haven't spoken in weeks. I just hope this plan works out like a Deceit said it will, come to think of it I haven't seen him in a while.

Virgil walks through the door only moments after Sissy walks up the stairs.
"Hey Virge." He flinches, I guess I startled him. I approach him and he mumbles a quick 'hey' and tries to run off. "You good kid?"
"Yeah I'm fine." He tries to speed past me but I hold him back for a second. He's been acting weird lately, probably upset about Roman. "Where've you been?"
"Logan's, just to hang." Or he's moved on, I smile at him slightly and pat him on the back.
"Alright well get to bed Virge, it's getting late." I glance at the clock and wait for him to correct me but when I look back he's already halfway up the stairs. I roll my eyes and sit back at the kitchen counter, I've already mapped out how to get into the boy's house and listen the people I need, the hunt will be a breeze at this rate.
