Chapter 6: DeeDee

Deceit's always been eager to protect me, since I'm a half blood he always knew it'd be hard for me. You see I'm not a vampire because I was bitten or recently deceased or born from vampires. I'm only the way I am because my dad's a vampire. He died about a couple hundred years ago and still looks 21, he and my mother met at the cemetery she lived close by to. Dad had crawled out of his grave ages before they met but the cemetery was the only place he knew. Mom taught him everything he knows now about the human world and so they became friends. Even after mom found out what he was she still stayed by his side, and they fell in love. So when I was born Dad was always trying to stay hidden after the hospital started to get suspicious. I mean it's not everyday you see a baby as white as snow with fangs. Dad knew it'd be hard raising me and keeping our secret hidden, so he called on an old friend. Deceit has been in my life for as long as I can remember, he and his family were vampires in the 1500's, they were all born vampires. When the villagers found out what they were they caused a riot and burnt the house down, Deceit was the only one who escaped. He slipped out the window using his shapeshifting powers, he's always blamed himself for his family's death. Dad thought he'd be the best person to watch over me, but Deceit doesn't see it as a job he actually wants to keep me safe because he cares. He makes being a half blood bearable despite being shon by other vampires.

I used to call him DeeDee when I was younger, I guess that nickname's just too childish now. He'd turn into a butterfly or something and I'd just watch him for hours. When I was old enough to understand whet the hell was going on and why I had fangs, DeeDe- Deceit taught me how to use my powers. He taught me how to control my hunger and how to stay hidden. He's always been there for me, but I just wander if he sees me as a second chance at 'protecting his family' he's practically my brother at this point. I just don't wanna worry him by doing something stupid, although I guess it's a little late for that. Deceit and Roman have never met before, not properly anyway. Deceit's only ever seen Roman and Roman didn't even know he existed until yesterday, it's kinda weird to think my best friend and my boyfriend have never met. I mean we've been dating for-
"Virgil?" I suddenly snap back to reality. "Hello Earth to Virgil?" Roman waves a hand in front of my face, I blink at the sudden movement in front of me.
"What?"
"It's been like ten minutes, that's what." I look around for a clock and see Patton and Logan beside me, plus the rest of the cafeteria. Damn I was out for a while.
"Oh uh sorry about that..." I smile awkwardly.
"It's okay kiddo." Patton grins. "You just seemed a little spaced out is all."
"Yeah." I nod in response and smile fondly. Usually, getting all nostalgic makes me kinda anxious about change but I'm actually feeling kinda good about how far I've come.

Roman walks me home again since he hasn't got rehearsals, he's very eager to know more about my life as a vampire and wants to know more about Deceit since I've started talking about him more. He's so interested in everything I have to say, it's so cute, god I'm in love with this idiot. However, streets of Florida isn't really the place for this conversation so we have code for certain things we can't so out loud.
"So if Deceit's so ancient how comes he looks about your age, and you're sixteen going on seventeen." He sings the last bit making me smile.
"Because he died in the 1500's and became a red drinker, he's immortal so he looks whatever age he died and doesn't age. Where as I was born one." I pause. "Well half of one."
"What'd you mean?" I lower my voice a little.
"I'm what's called a half blood, I'm half human and half vampire." I mumble 'vampire' as we get closer to my house.
"Bet you get hell from the others."
"Like you wouldn't believe."
"So how long have you known Deceit?" He changes the subject.
"Ever since I was born."
"Wow."
"Yeah, and it's kinda funny you should mention Deceit actually."
"Why's that?"
"Well I was actually thinking about this earlier today but, my best friend has never met my boyfriend. It's kinda weird to think you didn't even know he existed until yesterday."
"I guess that is kinda weird." We stop outside my house.
"No time like the present, right Ro?"
"What?"
"He's been followings this whole time." Roman looks around.
"Virge what are you-" I hold up a black cat in my arms. "Virgil, babe that's a cat."
"He's a shapeshifter dumbass."  I place it on the ground and suddenly a tall, dark figure takes its place.
"Thanks for the dramatic introduction Virge." Says Deceit as he turns to Roman. "You must be Roman, Virgil talks about you all the time." I go pink and Roman smiles. "Mostly in his sleep." He whisper yells, smirking at me.
"Whatever Stalker." I nudge him and roll my eyes, smiling slightly.
"Virgil talks about you a lot too." Roman chuckles. "All good things mind you."
"I should hope so." Smirks Deceit, glancing at me. I just flip him off as he chuckles back.
"Ro I should get inside before golden hour." I say.
"Oh yeah."
"I'll give you two some privacy." Says Deceit, turning to his bird form and resting in a nearby tree. Roman and I kiss for what feels like forever, then Deceit yells. "Get a room!" From the tree he's sitting in.
"Once you stop stalking me I might be able to!" I yell up to him as he chuckles once more, Roman smiles and kisses me on the cheek.
"See ya tomorrow Maleficent."
"See ya Prince Philip." Then he disappears down the and I step inside.

If only everyone could be as excepting as Roman...
