Wilmer's pov
When we get to the hospital Alexia is still in her coma and Marilyn is here to visit. She gives me a confused look as she sees me with Demi. I'm sure she's not only wondering why I walked into the room with her, but why are we getting along when every time she's seen us we haven't.
I don't know what Demi's plan is for our relationship, but mine is to keep things on the down low in case things don't work out. I also feel like the only person who needs to know is Alexia. So she'll be the only person I inform.
"She hasn't done therapy today. Evidently someone has an attitude even in coma. She refused to answer questions because she knew you weren't here and she wanted to answer the questions on your hand and not the doctors." Marilyn says.
I walk to my daughter and kiss the top of her head, "Hi princesa."
I put my hand under hers and let her fingertips rest gently on my hand, "I love you." I whisper.
"Do you love me too?" I whisper.
I gets single tap on my hand meaning yes and I smile, "You ready for therapy today?" I ask.
She taps my hand twice and I chuckle at the no response, "It's not very fun is it?" I ask.
She taps my hand yes to agree with the statement, "It's a lot of work, but you're doing so good, you know that?" I ask.
She gives me a yes reply, "Alexia I'm offended you wouldn't talk to me. I thought I was your favorite aunt. I didn't know this was only something you'd do only for your dad." Marilyn teases.
"Your mommas here Alexia." I say.Demi stands beside me and moves Alexia's hair out of her eyes. She puts it behind her ear and I give Alexia's hand a gentle squeeze.
"What time were they going to begin therapy?" I ask.
"They wanted to start as soon as you got here because Alexia wasn't wanting to do therapy until then. They wanted to get it knocked out." Marilyn says.
"Have they said anything?" I ask.
"No, but she did really well in therapy yesterday. They had her move her feet and wrists which she hasn't done before then. She's definitely got a lot of strength and they admitted she should be awake by now."
She should be awake by now and she's not. Again, why I'm feeling so much fear. As far as they can tell she's ok. But what if when she wakes up she's not? What if the seizures have caused something we just can't see right now? What if it's something we'll only know once she does wake up?
I look down at Alexia to watch her eyes open and quickly water and turn into a squint, my heart behind to race in excitement at the sight.
"Lexi, oh my god." I say.
"You did it Alexa, I'm so proud of you." Demi whispers.
With a few moments of trying to adjust to the room, her eyes move to Demi and I in confusion, "Can you talk Lexi?" I ask.
"I'm going to get the doctor." Marilyn says before rushing out of the room.
Alexia leaves my question unanswered and her attention goes straight to the doctor. After a series of tests from the doctors something is definitely not right with Alexia.
"Can we talk in the hallway?" A doctor asks looking between Demi and I.
I give a small nod and follow behind him with Demi. Once the door closes he looks at his clipboard, "Not being able to move or remember much when someone comes out of a coma is normal. A lot of patients have to go through physical therapy, memory therapy, and speech therapy to fully recover. What isn't normal is to be able to use your brain and hearing in a coma then wake up and not be able to remember any of the therapy you've been doing. She looks so confused and almost scared when we speak to her which I've seen happen once and that was with a child who we spoke English to for an hour before realizing that the child didn't speak English. But she speaks English and she was responding to English." He says.
