46: The Oath

"To find Merlin's tomb," Blinky said. "The Trollhunter must destroy the amulet. That's—"

"Do you really think it was Merlin making the amulet?" Jim asked.

"I wasn't finished," Blinky said. "That's deranged!"

They sat in Jim's room with Toby and Dictatious. Jim sat at his desk, holding the amulet and Claire sat on Jim's bed. "I saw vague memories in my head left over from Morgana," She said.

"You're saying Jim should destroy his amulet because you think you saw some old man put a map inside of it?" Toby asked.

"It was Merlin. The key to finding his tomb, to finding his staff, is inside the amulet."

"The girl child may be onto something," Dictatious said. "The amulet and the staff are connected."

"Both fueled by the magic of Merlin," Blinky said.

"If Jim breaks open his amulet," Toby said. "He can't armor up! And if he can't, goodbye Eclipse Blade! How is he supposed to kill Gunmar?"

"If we don't get the staff first," Claire said. "None of that will matter anyway."

Jim looked at the amulet. "Maybe I don't have to destroy the amulet. You said Gunmar has Aaarrrgghh captive?"

"And Aaarrrgghh could be used as an emotional anchor," Blinky said.

"We'll portal jump right to him," Claire said.

"The plan is set," Jim said. "We save Aaarrrgghh and stop Gunmar by any means necessary before he acquires the staff."

"I can't say we approve of all your life choices," Javier said, holding Claire's backpack. "But if you're going to run off, you're going prepared. It's got a poncho in there, waterproof matches, a flashlight, chorizo—"

"Dad," Claire said. "Jim's got a sword made out of Daylight. You give me chorizo?"

Ophelia hugged her. "It'll be a little taste of home."

"I packed your favorite Diablo Maximus Burrito," Mrs. Domzalski smiled at Toby, handing him his backpack. "Along with an extra pair of undies."

Toby quickly took the backpack. "Thank you, Nana. I will take these two things that are completely unrelated."

Jim looked at Barbara and smiled. "No underwear for me?"

She hugged him. "Just call, okay?" she said. "Text every once in a while. And take pictures to know you're safe."

Blinky put his hands on Dictatious's shoulders. "Stay here," he said. "You're my brother. And I still don't trust you."

Claire and Toby took out their weapons. "You ready?" Claire asked.

Jim took out his amulet. "For the glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command. Let's get our friend back."

They appeared in a dark room and held up their weapons. "Stay alert," Jim said. "Gunmar could be anywhere."

"Where are we?" Claire asked.

They walked a bit and soon saw Aaarrrgghh in a stasis trap. "Aaarrrgghh," Jim said.

"Wingman!" Toby ran over to him and Blinky stopped him. "Stop! It's a trap!"

"A stasis trap," Toby said. "That's..."

"The work of Angor Rot," Blinky said. "And he's upgraded it!" he looked at the Dwarkstones that surrounded the trap.
