her boys

After what felt like forever, Meg was finally beggining to get some peace. Slowly developing a somehow healthy routine, with Gustav's help, she started regaining the light in her eyes that hadn't been there in an awfully long time.

She was still working two jobs but she was barely tired after getting back to the crib every time. Maybe it was the running that exhausted her so much. Her current living situation was a million times better than her actual house, even though she ended up as a cook for at least four people on a daily basis. She didn't mind, because it meant that she could cook whatever fit in her picky eater's menu.

It was another one of those days where she found herself in the kitchen, with her apron on and an idea in mind. Baking was a huge hobby of hers, but being always either too depressed or coked up to do it made Meg forget how much she actually enjoyed it.

After doing the dishes, which Gus was supposed to clean before she came home, and reprimanding her boyfriend as if he was a little kid, Meg quickly whipped up some food for her boys and then got around to prepating some dough. She multitasked her ass off, because apparently sitting down for a minute and taking a breath was not an option, and in no time she was ready to call down the boys and pop the cookies in the oven.

The sweet smell got around the crib really quickly. Gus inhaled the familiar but unrecognizable scent and got up from the couch. He was sitting in the living room, watching Scooby-Doo, since Meg kicked him out of the kitchen because he pissed her off by forgetting to do the dishes.

"Guys! Food's ready!" Margaret shouted so that everyone - being Tracy, Wicca, Gus, Wiggy and Bexey - could hear her.

Gus came into the kitchen and smiled as he saw Meg in her pink apron, and with her hair thrown into a messy bun.

"What's cooking, mamas?" He asked, turning Meggie's attention away from getting the plates ready.

"Mac'n'cheese, bub," she pointed to the pot on the stobe. "I'm baking some cookies, too. Already put them in the oven."

"Goddamn, baby. I love your cooking so much." Gustav exclaimed, his mouth watering at the sight of the food. "You're not eating with us?" he asked, noticing there were only five plates.

His girlfriend's eating habits were still a work in progress. He noticed that she felt comfortable with eating when there weren't a lot of folks around, but she often tried to use that as an opportunity to skip a meal altogether. She kept insisting that it was in no way an eating disorder but Gus made it a priority to keep an eye on her and make sure she eats enough.

"I'm not hungry," the redhead shrugged, as she pulled enough cutlery for everybody out of the drawer. "I'll just eat something later, I promise."

"Alright, boo," Peep walked over to his girlfriend to place a soft kiss on her forehead. "You not mad at me anymore?"

"No, bub," Meg looked up at Gus' face and smiled. "I have a date for us tonight if you're in."

"Hit me."

"Let's decorate these cookies together," she suggested, her cheeks turning a light shade of red. Meg knew that it was cheesy and probably completely out of Gus' comfort zone - he wasn't really a hopeless romantic kinda guy.

"You're adorable, you know that, baby?" Peep said placing his right hand on Meg's burning cheek. "We'll have a cookie decorating date later and it's gonna be fucking awesome."

The redhead smiled at Gustav's words, their eyes met and Peep leaned down to kiss Meggie, who quickly got lost in the pleasure.

"Not in the kitchen! Get a room you two!" The couple parted at the sound of Tracy's voice. "Yall nasty..."

"Fuck off, man," Gus mumbled, then sighed quietly. He still hasn't fully came around being affectionate towards Meg in front of others, even if it was in front of his best friends.

"Chill, brother," Trace laughed. "What we eating, Red?"

"I smell fucking mac'n'cheese" Wiggy stormed into the room with a wide smile on his face. "Holy shit, you the best, Ma!"

"Thanks, Nate," the girl laughed, seeing how excited her best friend was.

"Bexey! Wicca! Get yo asses to the damn kitchen!" Jazz yelled, not wanting to start the meal without them.

"Take your seats, guys," Meggie told the boys and they all did, without any discussion. Bex and Adam entered the kitchen and sat down at the table. "Enjoy, yall."

A few muffled 'thank you's came from the guys, who already started eating. Margaret smiled at her boys and turned to do the dishes once again. She really liked her friends' habit to eat at least one meal a day all together, it really helped their friendship.

"Why aren't you eating with us?" Wicca asked, causing Meg to turn around and notice that all eyes were on her now.

"She's not hungry, man," Gus answered, before the girl had a chance to open her mouth. She shrugged and nodded, agreeing with what her boyfriend said.

Twenty minutes later it was only Meg and Gus left in the kitchen. The redhead smiled at Peep sweetly, adjusting her apron.

"You want a beer?" Gustav suggested, opening the refrigerator. "Or wine?"

"I'll have some wine," the girl answered, reaching for one of the wine glasses that she bought some time ago. Gus poured his girlfriend a full glass and took out a beer for himself.

They just stood in each other's arms and chatted for a while until the timer on Meg's phone went off. The girl clapped her hands excitedly and opened the oven. Peep loved seeing her so happy. The day they met she seemed to have lost the way as she was ready to OD on whatever she could get her hands on. And then there she was, wearing a violently pink apron and making cookies in her boyfrind's kitchen.

"They're done!" She exclaimed, making Gus laugh quietly.

"You are so fucking adorable." The soft whisper was too quiet for the redhead to hear as she focused on getting the tray out of the oven.

"We'll have to give them a moment to cool down so the icing doesn't melt," she explained, knowing full well that Gus has never cooked a full meal by himself before. "I think I can eat now. Will you sit with me?"

"Sure thing, baby. Let me get you a plate." And so he did, full of disbelief caused by how much he liked their little domestic life.
