A knock on Gustav's bedroom door caused him to blow out the smoke he was holding in his lungs.
"Come in" he didn't even bother asking who was it, but he certainly did not expect Margaret. "What's up?"
"I need to get my bag" she answered bluntly, not even looking at Peep.
"What for?" he sat up on his bed and asked after taking another drag of his joint. "Boo?"
"I'm leaving" Meg's short reply shocked Gus to the point that he quickly stood up and walked up to the girl. She was struggling to zip her bag and that did not at all help with her nerves. Peep quickly brought the joint to his lips, once again breathing in the intoxicating smoke, then quickly blowing it out. He put out the joint and turned his attention fully to the redhead.
"What are you talking about? Meg?"
"I'm going home" she shrugged, finally winning her fight with the zipper. "I don't want to stay here, since I'm clearly not welcome."
"You are welcome. I'd rather have you here than at home with Cameron! We don't know what he's capable of..." Gus grabbed the redhead's arm. He forcefully turned her to face him and looked straight into her icy-blue eyes.
"I know that he won't hurt me, Gus..."
"He did hurt you, today, your purple neck says it fucking all! I want you to be safe!" he exclaimed loudly, throwing his arms in the air.
"Why!? Why do you want me to be safe? I'm no one to you!"
"I... I don't know, okay? I just care" Gus raised his hand as if to caress Margaret's cheek, but the girl jerked away from his touch.
"We don't even know each other and yet, one time you act like we're together and then like you don't even know me or something" she shrugged, picking up her bag.
"What are you talking about?"
"Today morning, in the kitchen, you grabbed my hip like it was nothing. Then, not even an hour ago, you left me downstairs with your friends and got busy with your girlfriend!" Meg sighed, confused by the whole situation.
"Layla isn't my girlfriend" Peep mumbled, taking a little step away from the redhead.
"I don't care who she is" Meg shrugged. "I just care that you left me there..."
"I'm sorry" he whispered. "But, please, don't go. Just stay, okay?"
Margaret looked up at Gus, the sad look on his face made her feel bad. She felt as if she was disappointing him and she didn't like the feeling.
"I don't think me staying here is a good idea..." the girl whispered, then sighed quietly.
"It's a better idea than going home to your crazy brother" Gus said, not really thinking his words through. Meg's head shot up, disbelief written all over her face.
"Cameron's sick!" she raised her voice and slammed her fist on Peep's chest. "How dare you fucking talk about my brother like that? I'd be dead if it wasn't for him!"
"You'd be dead if it wasn't for me too!" Gus shouted, finally losing his temper. "Stop fucking glorifying him, he was fucking choking you today!"
"It's because he's sick" Margaret stated, clearly faking her calmness.
"We all are, Meg! You're a drug addict, as far as I can tell, and so am I. Do you go around hurting your loved ones?" Gus' voice softened as he saw how lost Meg seemed. "We all got our stuff, boo, but your brother deals with his in a toxic manner."
"But... But he loves me" she stuttered, her eyes suddenly welling up with tears.
"Of course he does, he just has troubles with handling his demons properly" he cooed, pulling the redhead into a hug. "It's all good now. Will you stay here with me?"
The girl just nodded, not able to bring herself to speak up. She closed her eyes, letting all her tears just wet her cheeks. She was so confused with everything going on.
She always knew that her brother's behavior wasn't normal, but she just realized that Gus might have been right when he said that Cameron could have killed her. What is Gustav wasn't there to rip Cam's hands from her throat? Would her own brother be able to choke her to death?
"Let's lay down, okay?" Gus suggested, slowly pulling Meg towards the bed.
"Oh hell nah, I ain't sleeping here!"
"What? But you just said you're staying..." Peep didn't understand why Meg would change her mind so quickly.
"I am, I'm just not gonna sleep here, you had sex on that bed like five minutes ago" she made a disgusted face - making fun of him.
"Right, okay" he smiled lightly at her.
"I'll sleep on the couch if you fix me up a bed there" she shrugged, wiping the remaining tears off her face. Peep nodded his head slightly while he looked at the redhead, wondering why he cared so much - he usually didn't give a fuck about strangers. Because that's actually who she was, just a stranger that he met at a bar the night before. Why was is so important to him to keep her safe? He had no idea where those weird feelings came from.
"You good?" Meg asked softly, shaking Peep's hand lightly.
"Yeah, yeah, just got lost in my thoughts. Let's go downstairs, yeah?"
"Sure" she agreed, following Gus' lead. They left the bedroom and headed downstairs, joining the rest of the clique.
"Where's Wiggy?" Peep asked, looking around the living room and peeking into the kitchen, when he noticed that one of his friends wasn't there.
"I'm here, I'm here" the brown-haired boy emerged from behind Meg with a camera in his hands. "Cheese!"
The girl turned around surprised, but looked into the lense with a shy smile.
"Beautiful" Wiggy complimented Meg, causing her cheeks to redden slightly. "Adding that to my collection."
"Your collection?" she asked curiously, sitting down next to Gus on the couch.
"Collection of photos of my friends" a short explanation and Wiggy's cheeky smile made her feel so warm inside. She smiled back at her new friend and subconsciously snuggled into Peep's side. The rapper put his long arm around her small frame and they just sat like that, enjoying the company of Gustav's friends. Meg was having a strong feeling that those guys will probably really quickly become her friends as well.
Obviously, she didn't mind that - now that she lost both her boyfriend and best friend - she could use some company sometimes. Meg had her brother, of course, but they never really talked much, and since Bella's accident they talked even less.
Margaret also wasn't in touch with her parents now, they both spiraled right back into drugs when they lost their youngest daughter. As two previously recovered addicts, it didn't take too long for both her mom and dad to fall head first into the addiction. And as of now, they said they'd be in rehab - Meg didn't actually know whether they were or not.
Nobody realized the girl started drifting away as she got lost in her thoughts, wondering what her parents were up to. Gus noticed when her head fell on his shoulder and she cuddled closer into his chest.
"Are you taking her to your room?" Bexey asked quietly, realizing that the redhead had fallen asleep. Gus shook his head.
"I'll just sleep here with her" he answered, making a note to himself to change his bedsheets tomorrow.
"I dunno what's gotten into you," Tracy spoke up for the first time in a while, "but you're soft for her." He had a smirk on his lips, a cigarette hanging loosely out of the corner of his mouth.
"Now we just gotta wait 'till you turn into a big sofie" Wiggy followed up, laughing. All of the guys chuckled under their breaths, expecting Peep to react somehow but he just barely shrugged and brushed it off.
Maybe he was being soft for Meg, but that didn't bother him at all. Gus didn't know why that girl made him feel good and at peace. But if all it took for her to stick around was him being soft - he would do that without hesitation. Even though he didn't understand why.
