The ringing just wouldn't go away. Meg whimpered realizing it was her phone making the annoying noise, she slowly opened her eyes.

"Turn it off, goddamit!" The girl didn't realize she wasn't alone, so Gustav's groan scared her quite bad. Actually, bad enough that she fell off the couch, smacking her head on Peep's elbow. "Are you okay? You good?"

A slight nod was all she was able to do. A shocked expression decorated her face as she looked around for her phone, which wasn't ringing anymore.

"It's on the coffee table, boo" Gus rubbed his face and sat up. The girl grabbed the device and noticed two missed calls from Rosie - her friend and colleague. She quickly dialed the number back and put the phone up to her ear.

"What's up?" Meg asked, her voice still a little raspy from her sleep.

"You gotta help me, you need to cover my shift at work right now" the girl sounded a little panicked.

"Is everything alright?" the redhead quickly stood up, Gustav's eyes following her every move.

"Bailey's teacher called me, said he's sick" Rose quickly explained. "I need to pick him up, so will you please cover my shift? You were supposed to work in the afternoon anyway."

"Sure, I'll be there soon" Meg promised, grabbing Gus' arm and forcing him to get up from the sofa. The call ended and she tossed the phone on the couch.

"What's wrong, boo?"

"Get ready, you gotta drive me to work, okay?" The girl looked up at his face with a smile as Peep agreed and followed her up the stairs.

"Where do you even work?" Gus asked, leaning against the door frame, as he watched Meg pick up some clothes from her bag.

"There's a small coffee shop on the 7th Avenue" she explained, standing back up. "Are you wearing this? Or do you wanna change?"

Fifteen minutes passed and the pair exited the house, hurriedly got into Gustav's car and drove off. It didn't take them long to get to the destination - even though Meg didn't really want to be at work.

"All's good?" Peep asked, noticing the frown on Margaret's face.

"Bianca works here too" she mumbled, which was followed by a deep sigh.

"It's gonna be alright" he reassured with a slight smile. "You got this!"

Meg smirked and nodded, "I've got this. Okay, I'm gonna go."

"I'll go with you, Imma get a coffee" Gus turned off the engine as Meg unbuckled her seat belt. She noticed that Peep was reaching for his wallet, so she placed her hand on his tattooed forearm and shook her head.

"It'll be on the house" she smiled sweetly. "Let's go, yeah?"

They walked inside the coffeehouse quietly talking among themselves, Meg's head held up proudly as if to show the world that she's got her shit together, even though she didn't.

"Oh, thank goodness you're here!" Rosie's face lightened as she saw Margaret approaching the counter. "I'm going to pick you up later, and we're gonna talk about him" she pointed her finger at Gus and winked at Meg, not even trying to be subtle.

"My shift ends at 8" the redhead said, walking behind the tall counter.

"I know. Thank you, bye!"

Peep situated himself on the stool, prepping his elbows on the counter. Meg quickly went to the back to put on her apron and tie her long hair into a ponytail.

"What can I get for you?" the girl came back to the counter and grabbed a big, plastic cup with the coffeehouse's logo on it.

"Surprise me, make me your favorite coffee" Gustav shrugged with a slight smile. Meg quickly got to work, preparing an iced coffee.

"You look cute."

"What?" Meg was surprised by Gus' sudden compliment.

"I said you look cute," he repeated, "in the apron."

"Oh, don't even, this thing is ridiculous" she shook her head but a shy smile appeared on her face. They kept talking about everything and nothing with small breaks every once in a while, when new customers approached the counter.

"I'm gonna change my bed sheets today, so we can sleep in my bed" Gus said, remembering the talk they had the night before.

"I'm not sure if..." Meg started, but was quickly cut off.

"Oh, c'mon, boo. You'd really rather sleep on the couch?" But before the girl had a chance to answer, someone emerged from the backroom and interrupted the two.

"You already found a rebound?" A high pitched voice, that Meg knew too well, made the redhead turn around.

"Oh, Bianca, honey," a sympathetic smile was plastered on Margaret's face, "don't go feeling too special, your new boyfriend came running back to me just next morning."

It was obvious that Bianca was taken aback with her ex-friend's words. Just by the look on Meg's face, Gustav could tell that she wasn't done taking yet.

"Also, B, sweetheart" a sarcastic smile on the redhead's full lips. "Your shift starts in five but you're at the wrong building. The whorehouse is just down the street."

Peep did not even try to contain his laughter and that made Bianca even angrier - her jaw was clenched as her face went red.

"You'll regret this, both of you!" she threatened through her teeth.

"Oh, for sure" Gus laughed, lightly nodding his head. "I'd get to work if I were you" he said and took a sip of his coffee, hiding his smile with the cup as Meg tried to cover her chuckle with a cough.

Some time has passed and Peep decided to go back home, leaving Meg with Bianca. The girls did their best to avoid each other, which was quite hard considering they had to work alongside. Luckily for Margaret her ex-friend was supposed to finish her shift at 5, so that gave the redhead three quiet hours of peacefully serving the customers.

Meg knew that Rosie will be asking her a lot of questions and it made her quite nervous - Rose always cared about the redhead and hearing about another overdose would sure be a disappointment. Margaret scratched her neck and even the light pressure from her fingers made her wince in pain. That's when she remembered about the horribly huge bruise around her throat.

Just as she was getting lost in her thoughts, the little bell above the door rang - notifying Meg of a new customer. She took a quick peek at the clock that proudly announced 8.01PM.

"I'm sorry, we're closed already" the redhead said, looking up. "Oh, hi, Rosie."

"Hey, girl" the woman laughed. "You ready to go? Bailey can't wait to see you."

"Yeah, just need to take my apron off and lock the doors."

"I'll wait in the car, no need to hurry" Meg nodded at Rose's words and disappeared into the back room. She knew she was in for a long night of gossiping and explaining herself.
