Sparring today was great. It took me a couple weeks to get a full hang of it, but Phil taught me a lot. I'd go over to his house every day to practice and he didn't seem to mind.

I got home, to find Nate's car parked in the driveway. My heart leapt as I parked my car and quickly ran inside the house.

"Nate?!" I called out. I ran into the living room. "Nate?" In the corner of my eye I saw a puff of smoke coming from the balcony. I slowly made my way to the sliding door to see Nate looking out into the forest, leaning against the balcony with a cigarette. I slid the door open.

"Nate!" I said as he turned around and smiled. I threw myself in his arms and felt his warmth against me and I nuzzled into him. "I missed you so much!"

"I missed you too baby." he said nuzzling his nose in my hair. "Where did you go?"

"I was just practicing some hand to hand combat." I said proudly.

"Is that so?" he said smiling down at me. "With who?"

"Phil." I said. "He taught me well."

His smile slowly faded. "Phil? You've been spending time with him?" he asked.

"Well we sort of bumped into each other when I went shopping for exercise equipment." I said. "It's actually a funny story now that I think about it. One of the clerks insulted me and..."

"I don't think it's safe for you to hang out with him." Nate said bluntly, puffing on his cigarette.

I raised and eyebrow and let out a big sigh. "Nate, I've been here all by myself. I needed to find something to keep me busy." I said.

"But with Phil?" he asked sternly.

I was taken aback. "What's wrong with Phil?"

He sighed deeply. "I just... I don't trust him around you." he said.

"Well, you can trust me right?" I asked offended. Phil wasn't really a bad guy. Crazy as fuck yeah, but he wasn't bad.

Nate turned to look at me. "Of course I do sweetheart." he said "I just know him better than you do, that's all."

I scoffed and went inside. Nate followed

"C'mon babe. I didn't mean anything by it. I just want to protect you." he said.

"You know damn well I can handle myself." I said, taking ingredients out for dinner.

He sighed deeply. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." he said as he walked behind and rubbed my shoulders.

I automatically melted to his touch. "I'm sorry too." I said. "I just needed to get out and find something productive. I can't just sit here and wait, Nathan. My brain will explode if I do." I said as I turned around wrapped my arms around him. "It's too painful."

He embraced me and kissed my head. "Hey, let's go somewhere. Just us two." he said. "You can tell me all about what you've been up to lately."

I hesitated for a minute, looking at the dinner I was going to make. He took my chin. "I want to treat you to something special." he said.

I smiled. "Ok boss, where to?"

We drove for an hour or so, happy to be in each other's company again, chatting and laughing. I missed him. He was my world. A world I unfortunately had to share. But I cherished every moment of it.

"So, what I don't understand, is how you have all this money, yet still haven't bought your own business yet." I asked, twirling my fingers with his.
