Chapter One-

"Anastasia"

___

Time to get up, I sighed.

I reach over to my side, barely clasping my alarm before laying down again. It's always the same, grey, ceiling.

A knock at the door. I wish in my head it's a prince waking me up from this forever dream.

"Come in-" I said, just as I yawned. It was aunt Magnolia. She was here to make sure I was up. "Have you not gotten dressed?!" She exclaims as she scans me. "I don't think so?..."

"Well then let's get on with it! Chop chop!" It's only because she's holding back, she isn't letting out all of that drama yet. I swear she would burst if she could. Even when she yells at me to get up, she feels more genuine than anyone in this castle. We've been so preoccupied and imprisoned in this castle it's like there's no outside world anymore. But, leaving this place would be a sin. And I wish I were able to commit one.

I stare at myself, looking straight into the mirror in front of me.

"Well...Hello there." For a second, I was waiting for a reply, then I remembered reflections don't talk. Besides, "it's time to get up" aunt Magnolia keeps reminding me like I have a goldfish's memory.

Magnolia stands in silence as she sets her hand on the rusty old book sitting on my table. It's a spell, not much of my business. My family has been performing rituals on this ancient book since the... Since I can remember. Even though I believe in my own fantasies, I know some are only myths. Still, they all have a reality somewhere.

That's why I know one day I'll be free.

"Quit day-dreaming. Your parents are coming home today. Today?... I'm not sure of how I'm supposed to react. It seems as if they're always out of this town, essentially opposite from my situation. "Had they mentioned me?"

She doesn't say anything at first, "...They were in a little hurry, but I'm sure they miss you".

...Yeah right. Like they've ever actually missed me before. I don't understand their attempt to make me feel better, they act like I'm non-existent, I bet that makes me feel better. I quickly rush out of bed hoping to find Edith in her study room.

I quietly peer inside the dusty atmosphere roaming out from the room.

"Are you there, Edith?..." I notice a silhouette, not far from the window. I creep closer, swallowing my biggest gulp down my throat.

"Edith...?"

"Why are you here?"

I jump, Edith looks confused. "There you are," I seem relieved, "you terrified me." She is a quiet bird after all.

"You woke up early today, Anastasia."
