Chapter Ten-
"Part-Time Job"
___
Just as I sink deeper into my thoughts, I notice the world around me. I spaced out again. There it is, I'm here. Oh, thank god I'm only fifteen minutes late. A petite, but elegantly structured coffee shop appears in front of me. Despite its appearance, the serious warmth this place and the atmosphere gives me is so distinctive. I begin to head through the back door. They're gonna be annoyed, and I'm pretty sure Sorry I'm late isn't going to cut it. I enter looking inside for anyone around. Guess the change room's empty. I head to my cupboard where my uniform was sitting. Instantly unraveling the buttons near my neckline. Overlapping my arms and proceeding to take my top off. Along with my hipster-like jeans. The uniform seems a bit excessive to my taste, just a plain shirt and bottoms would be fine with me. Ah, look at me. Rambling on like a straight-up fashion expert. I'm merely a teenage girl with a part-time job going through her high school crisis. Despite this, my life's not so depressing, just some things I want to change is all.
I head out the door, paranoid of being seen. I move towards the machines instantly beginning my shift as if nothing happened. Col's helping a customer, I feel guilty leaving him to handle this the customers on his own. He's practically a dad. Just as he suspects me, his dark eyes flash. We exchange looks and seems as he tries to ignore the fact that I just showed up. Typical. "Ah... Seems like I'll go with the everyday routine... A cinnamon latte topped with foam if you please." The woman utters with a highly tone of voice. It seems she comes here often, though I hardly recognize her.
Time is passing by and surprisingly at a brisk rate. Col has always been patient and persistent. I'm deemed at how he does it, and his charms lead the girls straight in here. Today, he hasn't been talking much. I ask him why. "Now what do you want?" He says, sarcastically. My eyes widen. "Jeez, I was only asking." I mutter as my expression intensifies. He raises an eyebrow. "Don't take it seriously Alex, you know I was joking." He changes the subject revealing his "dad" side again. "You came in late, as usual. Sometimes I wonder about you, Alex." I snap. "You make it sound like I'm seriously messed up, Col." "Well you are." I snap again. I immediately deny it. It becomes a quarrel between two twelve-year-olds.
