Chapter Eighteen-
"Home"
___
"We're here", He speaks up. I forget I was already charged from my credit card once he'd picked me up. Reynolds- I hope I never see you again. I gather my surroundings and force the car door open. While setting one foot out on the sidewalk, I watch my head before setting the other. Avoiding any talk with him. I quickly walk over to the other side to get away from the splashing road. I instantly remembered my attire and started feeling insecure again. Almost there, I wonder if I came at a good time. They wouldn't mind, right? I remember this place so well. The forest walk-through... I remember every tree like the back of my hand. We would all play hide and seek in here once it hit dawn. I know now that it wasn't such a good idea... I look around once the path leads to more earth. That's the hiking trail we would sneak through! Moving past the hazard signs, we were so little and fearless. The grass is greener, and the skies tell stories of the world above. I miss this place, it's so peaceful here. I walk through the endured trees and the daylight reaching the ground where the trees left coverage. There was one that stood out. Of course, it was king of all trees. The one we soared, flourished and embraced, all through the passing seasons. The lovely tones of fall covered the tree itself and the ground surrounding it. Autumn is springing. And it's leaving behind its memories. Fantasies arise at this time, and beautiful sunsets mount into the East. I look past the trees surrounding the empty area. The reek of cut-grass fills my nose enough to cough a little. Who's cutting grass...? I open one eye as I search for where the trail of smell leads to. This stinks; I deem closer to the sound of a lawnmower. Aha! ...? Wait. That's- Dad? I retain my nose as I yell over the sound of the automaton. The machine stops. "Alex?", He calls out from the distance. Still unsure, I step closer to his voice. Right as I was sure of him, I ran into his arms with the relief of finally seeing him. He let go of the lawnmower while it hit the ground. "I missed you so much!" I squeal, like a little girl I used to be. "We missed you." We embraced for a few more seconds until I let go and asked where mom and Kim were. "They're inside, waiting for you," I looked over his shoulder, where our house appeared. It's only been 3 months, and I feel like I haven't been here for years. I'm glad I came back to visit. I knocked on the door, holding my patience. I heard my mom's voice, telling Kim to come down. The door suddenly opened, exposing my mother's face. I quickly gave her a genuine hug corresponding to her sheer smile. When I heard rolling in the background, she moved out of the way. "Alex!" I heard a glee of happiness. A little girl proceeded closer on wheels, surrounded by therapeutic equipment. The girl calls out-
"Alex!"
