Sean's POV
I played around with the sleeves of my dark green shirt. Should I tell them? Would they be like mommy and daddy? I let out a saddened sigh; I won't bug them with such a thought. Today was my fifth birthday, but I really didn't want the others to know. I looked around shyly, finally snapping out of my thoughts. I only saw Mark. Mark was my best friend around here. I could talk to him, right? I took in a small breath and decided to talk to Mark about this; he wouldn't tell anyone, he's a good friend like that. I gently tapped on Mark's shoulder.
"Hey Mark, do you have a bit? I wanna tell you something," I asked in a nervous tone of voice. I gained a bit of courage seeing him nod though I saw him look rather confused. I lead him back to our room to talk in private. Once in the room, I shut the door, looking at my best friend I let out a small breath.
"So, I wanted to tell someone about this but I didn't know who I could tell. Then I thought I'd tell you, Mark," I said with a tiny frown on my face. "Today's my birthday, but I don't want to bug others with it. Mommy and daddy didn't like to celebrate because it was a waste of time," I continued as I looked down at my grey shoes. As I looked up I saw Mark thinking.
"I promise not to tell the others, okie Jack?" Mark told me with his hands behind his back. I gave a small smile.
"Thanks, Mark, I knew I could trust you," I said and went to turn to head to the door. "I'm gonna go explore around the manor. I'll see you later!" I spoke with a grin as I headed out the door of our room.
Mark's POV
Jack didn't know it, but when I told him I wouldn't tell anyone about his birthday, I had crossed my fingers behind my back. After he left, I made my way downstairs, looking for Carly. I knew she'd wanna know about Jack's birthday. I found her in the living room, scrolling on her phone.
"Hey, Carly?" I asked, trying to get her attention. She glanced down at me.
"Hey, buddy. What's up?"
"You're not going to believe what today is," I told her, hands behind my back again.
"Ummmmm... your birthday?" She guessed.
"No, but close. It's Jack's birthday today, and I think we should celebrate. He's five years old today!"
"And he didn't tell me?" Carly asked, looking hurt.
"His old mommy and daddy didn't celebrate 'cause they thought it was a waste of time. I think we should prove him wrong," I told her and she agreed, that determined look in her eyes. Nothing could stop Carly now. We spent the rest of the day gathering Egos and swearing them to secrecy. It was my job to keep Jack distracted before dinner so the Egos could set up. GD was making a cake and Marcy was using her magic to decorate. Tonight's dinner was gonna be awesome. I was so giddy, but I played it off as wanting to be a really good friend for Jack by not telling anyone.
Finally, it was dinner time. Jack and I raced down the stairs to the table and when Jack saw the display... he started to cry. There was a banner that said 'Happy Birthday, Jack!', a green colored cake, and even a few presents.
"You guys... did all this... for me..?" He asked through his sobs.
"Of course we did, little bro. We love you and your birthday is a HUGE reason to celebrate. Now come on, let's eat, huh?" Carly said, scooping him up in her protective arms. I knew that Jack was overwhelmed by the attention, but I hoped he wasn't too mad that I told everyone.
Dilford's POV
Weeks had passed since Jack's birthday party. Everyone had an awesome time, but I was selfishly glad that Mark had told me it was his birthday on his birthday, rather than telling Jack and Jack telling me. But regardless, I hoped they both knew how much all of the Egos had grown to love them.
