Sariya.

"Jordyn I keep saying that I'm okay. I just needed to leave yesterday, I'm refreshed now." Sariya told her sister as she tried on her maid of honor dress.

"Yeah I hear you, I just don't believe you. You and mom might be cooled off now, but we both know how quick that can change. I need you to promise me you won't let y'all pettiness towards each other, get in the way of my wedding."

Sariya made a face and stepped out of the dressing room. "It was never going to get in the way of your wedding Jordyn."

"How am I supposed to know that? You two can't be in the same room with each other. Like why is that Sariya? I feel like a few years ago you gave me some boo boo ass story as to why you left Houston, and I feel like you didn't tell me the truth. There's a reason you and mom can't get along, and it has everything to do with you leaving."

Sariya turned around and stared at her sister like she was crazy. "What are you talking about?"

"Mom told me that there's a reason why you left; and that only you and her knows. She didn't tell me why, but she said to ask you why you really left us behind and moved to Durham. Maybe it was or guy or something."

"And you believed her? I mean I'm not surprised but wow Jordyn. I knew you were a mommas girl, but I ain't realize you let her put shit in your head."

Jordyn rolled her eyes. "Stop it Sariya, now that's real low. Even for you. I mean everybody has had this thought, it just made absolutely no sense. You left Houston, where you had everything, to move miles away from us. You left your family behind."

"No!" Sariya snapped. "I don't want to hear that stupid shit at all. Mom is the reason why I left if you wanna know the truth so damn bad. I was pregnant and she gave me a ultimatum Jordyn. That's why I left!"

Jordyn froze. "What?"

Sariya just sighed and sat down. "I got pregnant by a boy I didn't know like that. I can't tell you how it happened, it just did. I told mom, dad never knew. At first she was there for me. But she had assumed I was getting an abortion, and I wasn't. She didn't like that, said me having a baby would look bad for the family's image. I didn't care about the fucking image, I wanted to keep my baby. So she said I had to either have an abortion, or she was taking away my trust fund. I couldn't believe her, and we got into a huge argument that ended in me leaving the house, and never coming back. I took whatever money I had and left Houston, I didn't know where I wanted to go, so I just chose Durham because I always wanted to go to Duke. I had got accepted there on a full ride so it was a pretty easy decision for me. It was far from Houston, and I was gonna be financially okay. A few months into my pregnancy, I'm happy. I have a part time job, I'm in college full time, I'm having a baby. I was barely showing, but the baby was there." She said, smiling softly to herself as she wiped away a tear.

"One day on campus I passed out, I don't know how but I ended up in a hospital. The doctor told me I had a stillborn birth, and that I was no longer pregnant." Sariya said, continuing to wipe away her tears. "I had lost my baby. The whole reason for me leaving Houston, was gone. I was alone. After that I completely stopped fucking with that woman, she is dead to me Jordyn. When I needed her she turned her back on me for a fucking image. She's always loved that job more than us, hell I'm sure dad knows it. He's used to it, she's controlling your life, I had to break the cycle."

Jordyn sat next to her. "Why didn't you just tell me? From the start! I would've helped you Sariya."

"No you couldn't help me! You couldn't even help yourself Jordyn. Your still in Houston under moms control, there was nothing you could do. I had all these plans for my baby and me, and the life we would live. But god had other plans for us."
