•••••Sariya.
"So what's so urgent that you had to interrupt my meeting?" Sariya asked Henry, who was on the phone. She was typing up some paperwork on the computer.
She could hear some voices in the background, and they sounded hysterical.
"What's going on?" Sariya asked again, pausing when she heard a kid crying.
"Oh shit— I almost forgot you were on the phone." Henry sighed, and the background noise disappeared signaling that he moved areas. "Sariya I need your help, it's urgent."
His voice was shaky.
"Yeah I'm here Henry, what's up? Whatever you need." Sariya told him, clearly worried. She didn't like the sound of his tone.
Had something gone wrong? Is Luciana okay?
"Sariya what I'm about to ask you may sound crazy but it's the last option for me. I need for Luciana's daughters to come and stay with you while she's in protective custody."
Sariya's eyes widened and she stopped typing. "Wait what?"
"Look I know it sounds crazy but I need you to trust me. You're the only person that I can trust. I can keep an eye on Luciana but I can't always keep an eye on her children. I think someone here is working with Germano," He whispered into the phone. "All week weird shit has been happening and when I woke up this morning, there was a blue rose on the front porch. That's Germano's signature Riya. Like how the hell did he find us?"
Henry was clearly pissed.
"Wait you think Germano has people working for him, that are federal agents?!" Sariya gasped.
Henry shushed her. "Damn can you be any louder? Why you think I called you from this burner phone? I don't know for sure but it's the only thing that makes sense. That girl is in danger, and she knows it. She's the one that requested this. Germano doesn't want those kids, I don't believe that at all. I think if we separate them I can focus entirely on Luciana and figure out what the hell is going on. It's not safe here for those kids, and I know you have a lot going on. But I need you, and Luciana needs you."
"What about my safety? What if Germano does want the kids and he hires people to come and attack me?" Sariya was completely torn.
"I don't know for sure Riya, but you're in this regardless. Especially as Luciana's lawyer. My gut is telling me that Germano doesn't want those kids, because he only left one Rose. He knows the way to Luciana are the kids, and if we separate them by taking them out of the mix completely, he will keep his focus on Luciana. I want to make sure I keep her safe, and in order to do that I need you to keep her children safe."
"Hold on one second. I need to think, so don't hang up."
Sariya couldn't believe a word she was hearing. She pulled the phone away from her ear for a second to really think about the situation at hand.
One thing about Sariya besides the fact that she's stubborn, strong minded, and independent— is that she's very logical. She is very good at looking at a problem and coming up with many scenarios and possible solutions and even the many possible outcomes. It's a reason she did so well in law school.
Every possible scenario and outcome flooded her mind quickly. She had to ask herself just how far she would go for her job.
And she knew the answer was always going to be... very far.
