Logan leaned back on his couch, phone in hand, talking to his mom.
"So, honey, you got any plans for tonight?" She asked. "If not, maybe I could make you dinner."
Logan chuckles nervously. "Oh, actually, I'm going out to dinner with Patton. You remember him? He was my best friend in elementary school. Turns out he's also my next-door neighbor."
His mother stayed silent, and he realized what she was thinking. He could see the look on her face perfectly in his mind.
"Wa- wait, mom, it's not-"
"OHMYGOSH LOGAN IT'S TOTALLY A DATE!" She squealed. "Awwe, imagine that! Logan and Patton! Logan Croft and Patton Foster! Oh my goodness, I-"
"Mom, I-It's not a date, I swear!" Logan groaned, his face turning red. "It's just going to be a little outing to get to know each other better."
His mom stayed silent for a few moments. "..That's exactly what a date is, Logan."
Logan groaned again, looking around the room for an excuse to leave, even though the conversation was through the phone. He saw the clock- 6:30.
"Well.. I- I should probably go. We are meeting up at 7, and I must get ready."
"Okay, sweetie! Have fun on your date~!"
"Mom, it's not-" Logan groaned again. "Goodbye."
Logan hung up, placing the phone down on the couch next to him and running a hand through his hair.
"Is it a date..?" He mumbled to himself.

"Heya, Logan!"
Logan opened the door at 7 to find Patton on the other side of it. Patton was wearing a light blue hoodie and navy jeans. Logan was wearing a gray T-shirt with a blue plaid jacket over it, and also wearing navy jeans.
"You ready?" Patton asked. Logan nodded. Patton stepped out of the way so Logan could come out of his apartment and lock the door.
When Logan was done, they started walking.
"So.. how have you been, Patton?" Logan asked.
"I've been pretty good!" He smiled. "I actually got a dog a while back, I had been wanting one for ages! It's a little corgi dog named Muffins."
Logan remembered Patton's bakery, and let a small smirk come over his face. "So.. did you name your dog after your bakery, or vise versa?"
Patton giggled as Logan held open a door for them when they walked out of the apartment building. "I got the bakery pretty soon after my dog, maybe a month, so I guess I named the bakery after my dog." He giggled again. "So.. how about you? What are you doing back in Montana, anyway?"
"Oh, well.." Logan looked down at the ground briefly, before looking back at Patton. "I worked at a paper company- I was my boss's second, I had the most clients, and I was a pretty important person in paper company standards. And then the branch got downsized, and they fired me. I'm.. still not sure why. My boss wouldn't give me an answer." Logan stayed quiet for a moment, before blinking and continuing his talking. "..So, I decided to move back here until I can get a job back in Florida."
Patton's face looked sad, and whether that was from empathy or just pure sadness Logan could not tell. "Oh, well, I'm sorry that happened, Lo. I'm sure you'll get a job again soon, you always were smart." He chuckled. Logan found himself feeling warmer after the nickname was given to him, even though it was freezing outside.
