"5 PM." Logan mumbled to himself. "It is 5 PM, 17:00, and I have to leave."
The plane he has to catch leaves at 10, so why would he have to leave so early? Well, since the town Logan is currently in is pretty small and secluded, the nearest airport is about 2 and a half hours away- but that doesn't count traffic.
Logan grabs his bags, and walks out his door. His landlord will be coming by in about an hour to get the apartment ready to be sold again. He looks around, and his eyes stop on Patton's door.
He feels his hand twitch, longing to go over.. but he keeps walking.
He walks out of the building, and to his mom's house, to say goodbye. Then, he's on the road.
He keeps driving. No looking back now. It's too late to turn back.
Is it too late?
It is too late.
One hour passes. Two. Almost three hours have passed at this point, and it's almost 8 PM.
He sees the sign for the airport- the exit he needs to take is really close.
Soon enough, he'll be back in Florida, and all of this will be behind him-
Ding
Logan blinks- his phone went off. It's a text from his mother. But the text isn't important, because Logan was too busy staring at his phone wallpaper.
It's..
The Picture.
The picture Logan took with Patton yesterday. The picture Logan took with Patton before they got into an argument. The picture Logan took with Patton before they.. he..
The memories of him and Patton started flooding back.
"Oh my god. My next-door neighbor is Patton."
...
"This was very fun. Thank you again, Patton. And thank you for forgiving me."
"Lo, please, don't worry about it! We were like, what, 11? 12? That was years ago."
...
"..I could give you some body heat..?"
"I, uh.. I wouldn't mind that, if you're okay with it."
...
"Oh, yes. I interviewed for a job about a week ago, and I got a call today saying that I got the job."
"Oh.. oh! Logan, that's great! When do you start?"
"January 5th."
"Okay, So you're flying out after Christmas then, right?"
"Well.. Erm.. no. I fly out Christmas Eve."
"Chris.. Christmas Eve? You can't get a flight any later..?"
"The company is paying for my ticket, and this was the only flight they could get."
"But-"
"I have no choice, Patton. If I don't make the flight, then I don't get the job."
...
"Patton, are you alright?"
"What.. do you mean?"
"Are you alright? I just.. You just seemed very sad, last night, about me having to leave."
"I.. yeah, I guess. I just, we were getting along so well, and I really like hanging out with you."
"We can always talk on the phone, or FaceTime."
"I know, of course. But.. it just.. won't be the same. I guess I just really like going places and doing stuff with you. You're really smart and easy to talk to."
"So.. are you."
...
"YOU CAN'T LEAVE BECAUSE I'VE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE BEFORE YOU CAME BACK!"
"I.. you make me.. so happy. I can't even describe it. Even just seeing your face, it fills me with- I-I-.. Logan.."
"Pat.."
All the memories danced around Logan's brain, but one particular one stood out.. said by Roman.
"Logan, you need to just kinda.. take a leap of faith on this one. Just trust me on this one. I.. when I realized that that's what I needed to do to solve an issue I had, my life got so much better."
Logan stared at the picture, feeling his face heat up.
"Oh my god.. I'm such a fool!" He said out loud to himself. "There's nothing waiting for me back in Florida, everything I've ever needed in life is right here!"
Logan sighed, smiling a bit to himself.
He missed the exit and turned the car around.
