•~~~~•~~~~•FLASHBACK-ONE DAY EARLIER•~~~~•~~~~•

Roman looked to his left, staring at his boyfriend.

They were having another date today, and they were watching Disney. Roman couldn't stop thinking about what Virgil had said.

Virgil was.. right. This is the second movie they've watched and neither of them has even tried to make a move of any sorts.

Roman knew he needed to break up with De- it was for the best. But..

What if De got mad at him, because De thought they were just taking the relationship really slow, and they broke up on a bad note? What if Virgil laughed when Roman asked Virgil out? What if Virgil had already gotten a boyfriend by now? What if Roman's relationship with De just magically started getting better?

There were so many scenarios that could stop Roman. So many scenarios that would put Roman out of his comfort zone- in fact, even things going perfectly would put him on edge.

Roman smiled to himself gently. He really did sound like Virgil. Virgil was normally the one to excessively worry, or express an unhealthy amount of concern. He was practically the embodiment of anxiety sometimes.

Roman realized that maybe Virgil and him had a lot more in common than he realized. Maybe.. that would give Roman a chance with him?

Roman sighed quietly, glancing over at De.

Roman realized that if he didn't say something now, he might not ever have to chance.

He gulped. Virgil was definitely right. He needed to take a chance- a leap of faith.

"..Hey, De?"

"Hmm?" De looked over at him.

"Uh.. is it just me, or do we not really act like.. we're dating?"

De blinked a few times, opened his mouth to speak, and then shut it. He thought for a few moments, before he said,

"Yeah.. you're right. But.. I kind of like it that way."

They both stayed silent for a few moments, staring at each other. Roman gathered up all of his courage and finally asked,

"De, should we break up? Just be friends? I still enjoy hanging out with you, but maybe not as boyfriends."

And then De said something that made Roman have to hide a smile.

"I've never been one to be honest, you know that, but I 100% agree with you."

"Bye, De!" Roman called out as De walked away.

"Bye!"

Roman was now standing at the front of his apartment door. Act One of the new hit musical Roman Stepping out of His Comfort Zone has now passed, and so has intermission. The lights have dimmed, it's time for Act Two.

Roman unlocked the door, stepped in, and locked it behind him. He looked at the couch to see Virgil staring at him.

"So.. how was this one, Roman?"

Roman sighed. "I-"

Virgil cut him off. "Was it everything you hoped and dreamed of?"

"Wh-"

"Did your perfect little date go just as you planned? Did you finally cuddle with him?"

"Vir-"

"Or did you just sit on the couch, not talking, watching one movie after another, barely acknowledging the other person's existence? Was this just another average date?"

"Stop-"

"Or, can you even call it a date?" Virgil stood up, started to get a bit angry, and still not letting Roman speak. Virgil started walking up to Roman. "It's just the same thing every time, is it? And nothing interesting happened on this one, did it?"

"Listen-"

Virgil reached Roman, standing in front of him. "Just the same old, same old, right? You got to his house, sat down on the couch, popped in a movie, and didn't speak for the rest of the date. I doubt you even said a word to him when you got there. You probably just knocked, he opened the door, and then you walked in and sat down on the couch without a word spoken!"

"Virgil, I broke up with him!" Roman had to practically shout to get Virgil to be quiet.

"And- wait. Hold on, you...?" Virgil crossed his arms in front of him, still staring up at his roommate.

"I broke up with him. You were right, Virgil, we weren't happy in that relationship- neither of us. We agreed to just be friends. And that talk we had, what.. half a week ago, it made me realize something. Virgil, I'm scared to go out of my comfort zone. It terrifies me, even. But you made me realize that if I want something, if I truly want something, I need to get it myself. I have to take a leap of faith and realize that there's nothing holding me back. So, Virgil, would you like to be my boyfriend?"

Virgil stood there, silently, processing everything Roman had told him. He then realized what Roman had asked him.

"I.. wait- wha.. really?"

"Yes, really. Do you want to be my boyfriend?"

Virgil stared at Roman for a few seconds longer, before a small smile came across his face.

"Roman, I think I was only getting so angry at you because I was, uhm, jealous." He chuckled awkwardly.

"Wait.. is that.." Roman couldn't believe his ears.

"Yes, you idiot! Of course I will!"

Roman laughed happily, and they both hugged each other.

I guess stepping out of your comfort zone can be good sometimes.. Roman thought as he hugged Virgil tightly.

They both look at each other, smiling, and Roman brings a hand to Virgil's red-tinted face. He gently brushes his bangs away from his eyes, before glancing down at Virgil's lips.

Virgil realizes where Roman is staring, and they make eye contact again. Virgil gently nods and closes his eyes.

Roman smiles gently, before leaning down to capture Virgil's lips in his own.

Roman practically melts into the kiss, realizing that he is, in fact, touch-starved.

After a few seconds, they break, staring at each other giddily.

"Thanks for finally getting some common sense, you idiot." Virgil chuckles.

"You're very welcome. But I couldn't of done it without you, dearest." Roman also chuckles, making Virgil blush a tiny bit.

"Well.. come on, let me show you what an actual date is supposed to look like."

Virgil grabs his hand, leading him over to the couch. They both sit down, and Virgil grabs the remote to open Netflix.

Roman hesitates before putting an arm around Virgil's shoulders as Virgil decides to put on Aladdin. Virgil leans into Roman's touch, laying his head on Roman's shoulder.

Roman smiles to himself, pulling Virgil closer. Virgil wraps an arm around Roman's torso.

Roman stares at Virgil's empty hand, and quickly uses his own empty hand to reach around and grab it. Virgil chuckled at this, moving both of their hands to sit on Virgil's leg.

They watched the movie silently, the only sounds being Roman randomly singing or both of them having small conversations at some points.

And this time, both of them were happy.
