“Jamie, we need to talk.”
In that moment I felt my heart stop. I was confused but mostly scared of what was about to go down. I mean whenever your parents say ‘we need to talk’ it’s not good. It never is. I was so nervous. I just wanted to ran out of the door and not look back.
“Take a seat honey.” My mom said.
“What is this about?” I asked with a shaky voice.
“We just need to discuss about few things.” My dad said looking at me and then my mom.
“First, we’d like to ask you if there’s anything you’d like to tell us about?” My mom said. Do they know? Do they know about me and Alexander? Oh god.
“Um- no.” I lied.
“You sure Jamie?” My dad asked. Should I tell them? Will they hate me? I had all these thoughts running thru my mind and I didn’t know what to tell them. I wasn’t ready for this.
“I… I… I don’t want you to hate me.” I stuttered, trying to keep my tears from falling.
My mom moved to sit next to me and said, “Oh honey… There’s nothing you could do that would make us hate you.”
“Unless you did something illegal, then it’s a different case.” My dad joked, lightening up the mood.
“I… I’m seeing someone.” I said looking at the floor. I could feel the tears forming in my eyes again.
“Oh is she from here?” My dad asked curiously. I shook my head. “Well is she from back home or?” My dad continued. I shook my head again. I lifted my head a little to see my dad’s face looking confused. I guess this was it. I wasn’t ready but I saw no other way out of this anymore.
“There is no girl.” I gulped. “It’s a… a boy.” I said and started bawling my eyes out. I couldn’t help it anymore. My mom hugged me and tried to comfort me. I didn’t want to see my dad’s face. He was probably so disappointed in me right now.
I heard him walk across the room and sit next to me on the couch. I felt his hand on my back.
“Son…” He started. “It’s okay, we still love you.” I seriously couldn’t help but to cry. They didn’t hate me. I felt so… relieved.
After I calmed down my parents wanted to know more about the boy I’ve been spending most of my time with.
“Well… You guys have actually met him…” I said, quietly.
“We have?” My mom questioned.
“He works at the restaurant, his name is Alexander.” I responded.
“Oh he’s the nice young man, isn’t he? Yes we like him.” My dad said. I smiled faintly drying my tears.
“Can I go now?” I asked. They nodded and I walked towards my room.
“Oh and son, that hickey on your neck better not mean you’re having sex.” My dad said. My face turned red.
“Don’t bully him David.” I heard my mother say laughing before I slammed my door shut. My parents… I swear to god.
I felt like I needed to call Alexander and tell him about what just happened. After 4 rings he picked up.
“You miss me already?” Alexander asked. I laughed and mumbled ‘yes’ to the phone.
“What else?” He wondered.
“Well I just wanted to tell you that my parents now know and they are okay with it.” I said. He didn’t answer right away which made me worry for a second.
