I rushed out of the shower because my phone was ringing in the other room.
“Hello?”
“Hallo, mein freund. Guten morgen.” (Hello, my friend. Good morning.) I heard the voice of Alexander on the other side.
“Alexander… I told you I’m not good with German.” I spoke with annoyed tone.
“Sorry…” He said in a baby like tone.I laughed. “Anywayyyy… I was thinking if you’d want to go on a little road trip with me?” Alexander continued.
“Where?” I questioned.
“It’s a surprise. Meet me at Starbucks in 30. Bye.” Before I could say anything Alexander hung up. I guess I have to hurry up if I only have 30 minutes. Not sure of what I should wear, so I picked the usual. Skinny jeans, tank top, plaid around the waist and blah blah blaah. I told my parents not to wait me since I had no clue how long or even where we were going.
I could see Alexander waiting for me outside of Starbucks. He was wearing black skinny jeans, a white loose t-shirt with burgundy colored vans and a bowler kind of hat.
He noticed me and smiled.
“Are you gonna tell me where are we going yet?” I asked. Alexander shook his head and said,
“Don’t worry we’ll have fun and I have our drink/food stuff handled.” He winked and dug a beer bottle out of the bag he was caring.
We just caught the last bus going to the direction we were going. The ride there was under 2 hours I think, but the time seemed to pass by quickly in Alexander’s company. I had to admit, he was very entertaining and weird. I guess that’s why we got along so well.
After getting off the bus we still had to walk a little. I still had no idea where we were going but Alexander kept assuring we were going to have fun. I just had to trust him, I guess.
We finally arrived to what seemed to be a creepy looking place that was behind high fences.
“And how are we planning to get in?” I asked, looking at Alexander who seemed to have some sort of grin on his face.
“Just follow me sir.” He said grabbing my arm. This boy really needs to stop grabbing my arm or it might fall off.
Alexander stopped by a church. “Come on, we have to get around it but we have to be careful here might be some building workers around.” Alexander whispered to me. We reached a fence again but this time we had to get over it.
“Here, help me up and I’ll pull you up, okay?” He suggested.
“Okay.” I replied. I lifted Alexander until he could get over it. As I was about to get over the fence I was pulled down and I fell to the ground. Man that hurt.
“Sorry there were some workers.” Alexander whispered as he was helping me up from the ground.
“What is this place?” I asked as we were walking towards it.
“Pretty sure it’s called Heilstaetten Hohenlychen, it’s an old abandoned war-time hospital. It’s really pretty though.” He explained.
“This door should be still broken we can get in thru here.” Alexander continued.
We wondered around the place for a while. It was full of dark hallways and dark, tiny holes. It was kind of pretty here, in a creepy way obviously. We sat down at one of the many stairs of this place.
Alexander offered me a beer. I couldn’t say no, because I didn’t want him to know that this was my first time actually drinking any alcohol. I opened the beer can and took a sip out of it, and so did Alexander. The beer tastes awful at first but I got used to the taste as I drank it more. Before I knew it we had drank few more beers and I was starting to get a little hazy.
We ran around the halls, destroying few things on the way but it didn’t matter. We even spray painted ‘A & J’ on a wall. I was having fun and so was Alexander. It was good to see him happy after what happened last night.
“Catch me if you can!” Alexander yelled before running off. I chased him thru the entire building until we got to this abandoned pool area. The ceiling was made out of glass and the sunlight shun thru it, making the place look magical. I ran towards Alexander knocking him off, making us both fall to the ground. We laughed and I said as I was getting up to sit, “I think we have had a few too many beers.”
“Yeah we drank them all but we do have champagne left, if you want.” He blurred out in his German accent, which seemed to only have gotten stronger.
“Can’t waste good champagne…” I noted.
He opened the bottle of champagne and pushed it to me.
“You take this and I’ll put us some music.” He said, digging his phone out of his pocket.
‘Nine in the Afternoon’ by Panic! at the Disco started blasting thru the speakers of Alexander’s phone.
“Oh I loooove this song!” I shouted, swinging the bottle, almost hitting Alexander. He laughed and said, “I think you’ve had enough, libeling.” He reached for the bottle but I moved it farther away from him, making him lean even closer to me.
“I love when you speak German to me.” I whispered to him. He finally got the hold of the bottle and now his face was just inches away from mine. We stared each other. I swallowed loudly and whispered,
“I have never done this.”
“Done what?” He questioned. I opened my mouth slightly to speak but instead I went in for the kiss. Our lips melting together, we both let go of the bottle letting it drop on the floor. His hand moving to stroke my cheek and my hand moving to his back. It felt weird, but I must admit I kind of liked it. I don’t know was it the fact that I was wasted or something else, but I swear I could feel a tiny spark.
The kiss deepened before we broke apart. Heavy breathing filled the room. We sat there quietly staring each other.
“I- I didn’t… I’m s-sorry…” I stuttered as I pushed Alexander farther away. I shot up from the ground and walked over to the other side. Alexander continued staring at me, not knowing what to say either. What had I done?
“I think- I think this was a mistake coming he- here, and it’s getting late. We should go.” I stumbled and stormed out of the room, trying to find an exit.
“Jamie! Wait up!” I heard Alexander yell behind me. He finally caught me up and grabbed my shoulder.
“We need to talk about this!” He shouted.
“No! I just want to get back. And there is nothing to talk about. Nothing happened.” I lied.
“Nothing? That was nothing?” Alexander shouted at me confused. He let out a loud sigh, “Whatever.”
We made our way to the bus stop and waited for the bus in silence, neither one of us saying a word. The bus ride in the same way. I could feel Alexander’s eyes drift towards me once or twice during the ride home.
I watched Alexander walk away from the bus stop without a word.
I was glad my parents were already sleeping when I got back. I ran straight to my room and slammed the door shut. My back against the door and slid down to the ground. My head in my hands I started to sob quietly. I really had messed up things for good now.
