~~~Two Months Later, February 29th~~~
Blake POV
"Zoey!" I yell from the top of the stairs.
"What?" Zo yells back.
"Where's my phone?"
"Check your office. That's where I saw it last."
"Thank you."
I walk to my office quickly. I need to call a fellow gang leader to talk about some urgent business and I can't do that without my phone. I get there but stop suddenly when I hear rustling in the room. I know it's not my mom or brothers since they're all at practice. Zoey is downstairs, my dad is at work, and all my friends are doing other stuff. That only leaves...
"Willow, what are you doing in my office?"
My little sister jumps in surprise and turns to face me with guilt written all over her face.
"Well?" I say.
"Dad told me to search for some sort of paper saying what you do for work that gets you all the money you have and I figured your office would be the best place to look," she admits. "I'm sorry Blake.
"Get out of my office and go talk to Zoey," I tell her. "She'll be more reasonable than me."
My little sister nods and races out of the office. I sent her to Zo because I know I will go ballistic on her since it's not only risky my gang being found out, but also her if anyone found out she knew. She is my voice of reason and handles situations that I can be rash about, especially recently.
Over the last few months, I have been extremely short-tempered and snapping at almost everyone. I'm on high alert for any sign of Darren and there still isn't one, not even a false alarm. He's staying on the down-low. It has become so frustrating; I want-no need-to make him pay for what he did.
For the past two months, Zoey has been having nightmares almost every night and if something like a loud, sudden noise will send her into a panic attack or some sort of flashback where she feels like she is still in that horrible cell, being beaten. I might need to take her to the gang's therapist soon; I've tried before but she's refused to go every time.
I begin cleaning up the mess of papers my sister created, becoming more and more relieved as I realize she didn't get into my important files. Willow was searching the cover-up papers that I created in case my office was every searched or any other emergencies.
"Hey," a voice behind me says softly.
I turn and smile when I realize it's my beautiful fiancee. Fiancee, still a really weird word to say but not a bad one. I walk over to her, gently grab her face, and kiss her softly on the forehead. I pull her close into a hug and we just stand there for a few moments that I wish would never end.
"I told Willow she isn't allowed in your office unless you say otherwise and there will be greater consequences than right now if I find out she was in here again," Zoey reports. "For now, she is cleaning up the kitchen since I just made cupcakes and it seemed like a fair punishment."
She sounds so calm and just right now, I love it. Zo is the exact opposite of me most of the time and it's a good thing. We balance each other out.
"Thank you for taking care of that. I would've gone too far otherwise," I explain with a small kiss.
"Your welcome, but I don't mind. I feel useful when I do it."
"You're always useful, even if it might not seem like it, my love. I love you."
