Okay, so I hadn't intended to update this today but I didn't want to leave you too long without a new chapter. So I hope you enjoy it :)
“Stevie, baby. Please open the door.”
It had been an hour since Carol had burst into Stevie’s home and dropped the ridiculous bombshell. She had lied and Lindsey was furious. He was now sitting on the floor with his head against Stevie’s bedroom door. She had run up the stairs away from him as soon as she’d processed Carol’s words. Carol had gone and Lindsey was now left to deal with the aftermath. She was refusing to talk to him.
“She’s lying. I would never do something like that to you, you know that. That morning when she came to your room? I didn’t talk to her all day. I couldn’t after what she’d done. I wasn’t even around her until we left for the airport and she got in my car and then she went back to LA.” Lindsey was pleading with her at this point. “Baby, I could never have asked her to marry me. How could I? I’m not in love with her. I love you and even if I had ever wanted to, wouldn’t I have done it when you and I were at each other’s throats and not talking at all?
Suddenly his head fell forward as the door to the bedroom opened. Lindsey looked up at her and could see she’d been crying.
“She was wearing the ring, Lindsey” her voice was low.
“So? That means nothing. She obviously took it from my jacket when you gave it back to me. Stevie, she’s insane. I can’t believe you're choosing to believe her over me. That's just fucking great!”
“DON’T” Stevie’s voice had grown loud, pointing her finger at him. “Don’t you turn this around like I’ve done something wrong.”
“Steph, look I’m sorry okay. I-“
“I’m going to bed. I think it’s best that you don’t stay in here tonight. You don’t have to leave the house. I just want to be alone.” Lindsey knew there would be no point in pushing. He dropped his head and sighed heavily as Stevie closed the door to her bedroom once again. She curled up on the bed, subconsciously rubbing her stomach and wincing at the sound of Lindsey’s fist colliding with a wall downstairs.
Stevie replayed Lindsey’s explanation in her head. She knew he was telling the truth because she knew what Carol’s intention and motive were behind the latest stunt. It was just that Stevie was sick and tired of something always going wrong every time she and Lindsey got close to happiness, it seemed like it had always been the way in their relationship. She loved that man so much and couldn’t understand what they had done so wrong that they deserved so much pain. Why can’t it just be easy? Stevie thought to herself as she drifted off into a restless sleep.
Lindsey had woken up for the fourth time that night. He couldn’t settle, unsurprisingly. Rolling onto his back on the couch, he stared at the ceiling. He was thankful Stevie hadn’t kicked him out the house completely. He couldn't help but consider it progress and he hoped things would get figured out in the morning. It was then he heard movement on the stairs and the sound of Stevie’s light footsteps heading towards the living room. He was pretending to be asleep when felt her sit on the edge of the couch. Her fingers stroked his face and the side of his neck, down to his bare chest. Opening his eyes, he looked at her face which was illuminated by the small blue lamp in the corner of the room.
“I was cold and I missed you” her voice was so soft and delicate that Lindsey thought he might melt at that very moment. He smiled at her and pulled back the rug, motioning for her lay down and she did, snuggling against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and together, they slept.
It was the day before they were set to leave for the Australian leg of the Tusk tour. A week had passed since Carol had tried to ruin relationship, again. They hadn’t heard from her since and she had finally moved from Lindsey’s house. They were still in Stevie's house but had been discussing whether he should move in with her or she with him. Lindsey had suggested they buy a totallly new house to represent a new beginning. Stevie liked the idea of that but thought it would be better if they talked about it once they had completed the tour.
“So where are you and my child going today?” Lindsey asked as he watched Stevie get dressed.
“We..” she giggled “..are going with Robin to get some final bits and pieces before tour.”
“So.. make up? I guess I’m glad I’m not going now” he teased, wrapping his arms around her and placing his hands on her tiny bump.
“I guess I’m glad I didn’t invite you then and are you forgetting about the eye makeup you were wearing a month ago?” she replied, raising an eyebrow and smiling at him in the mirror. He pretended to be hurt before she turned her face to his and kissed him slowly. Stevie placed her hands over his and turned back to the mirror, taking in the view of them together.
“Look at us, Linds. Did you think we’d ever be here?”
“This right here is everything I’ve ever dreamed of. Me, my beautiful girlfriend and our little bundle of joy.” Stevie’s heart skipped as he spoke. She had never seen him so happy and relaxed. His eyes got bluer when he was happy, something she’d noticed a long time ago. In retrospect, it all made sense to Stevie now. When they broke up, he could be the most sarcastic and unpleasant person to be around. He could be moody and hotheaded. It had shocked her a little to see that side of him at first. She now realized that it was being without her that had made him that way. Now that they had gotten back together, it was like the old Lindsey had returned and she loved it.
“Baby, do you think the band is really okay with this?” He turned her around in his arms. “Stevie, the band is fine. You don’t have to worry. We only have a month of tour left and we’d all already agreed we’d be taking a break after this tour was done with. If they have a problem, then they can deal with me. This is our time. We’ve worked our asses off in this band and we deserve to be happy. People are happy for us, you know.” He brushed her hair from her forehead and kissed it.
“You’re right. I’m sorry, I’m just panicking.”
“Don’t apologize. I understand.” He said soothingly.
“Oh, I hear Robin outside.”
She went to step out of his arms but he stopped her. “Hey, don’t be too long. I have plans for you and me tonight.”
Stevie eyed him “Oh yeah? I’m sure I can guess what they are.”
He laughed “Well that’s definitely part of it, my love but that’s not the main event.”
“Okay, so you have to tell me now!”
“Nope!” He kissed her and patted her butt gently. “You better get going. Robin is waiting.”
Stevie gave him her best pout but agreed to let it go. She eventually got her things together and left to go shopping with Robin, giving Lindsey plenty of time to start putting his plan into action.
