Abraham stops the truck, "We're all going in, the more people the better," he says. I nod and get my gun ready.
I turn to Mika, "We're here, Girly," I say, poking her arm. She grumbles as she sits up, "You need to stay here with Judith," I say to her. Mika nods as I lay Judith on the seat beside her, "Stay here," I tell her. We all jump when a gunshot rings through the city, emanating from the hospital.
I jump out of the fire truck, "That was from the hospital," I mutter. Carl nods, "Let's go," he says. Abraham nods, "Let's go," he repeats.
We walk through a rusting chain link fence and into the main hospital parking lot. "Stay tight, guns high," Abraham says motioning for the group to follow him.
I hold my gun high as I follow behind Rosita, I glance over at Carl who is walking heel to toe beside me. Carl looks over at me as well, "We're good," he says. I nod and we continue slowly with the rest of the group, Abraham in the lead.
We stand in the parking lot for a moment as shouts filter through the air.
The front doors of the hospital building open. Rick is the first to emerge from the gloomy building. The look on his face tells me that something happened. He shakes his head once he's out from under the awning. Sasha an Noah walk out one after the other. Tyrese and Carol come out next. He has his arm around her to help keep her up. I can see Daryl behind the pair that came out together.
Daryl comes fully into view, he has Beth in his arms. She was shot in the head by one of the cops in the hospital.
Maggie screams when she sees her sister. I cover my mouth, I didn't know her well but Maggie always talked about her.
Maggie drops her gun, she manages to take a few more steps before she falls to the ground herself.
Blood is still dripping from Beth's blonde locks. "We weren't supposed to lose anyone else. I told Mika we wouldn't," I whisper.
Carl turns to me and pulls me into his arms. "We'll be okay," he says, I wrap my arms tightly around his waist and bury my face into his neck.
Maggie sobs loudly on the ground. "I just got her back!" the woman screams, Glenn tries to hold her back but she manages to duck around him and to the hospital.
Glenn runs after her but she pushes him away. Rick wraps his arms around her to stop her from reaching for the doors.
"NO! RICK! Let me GO!" she screams loud enough to draw walkers for miles. "Mags we made a deal, we have to go," he whispers.
Daryl and Glenn wrap up Beth's body in a sheet. Maggie struggles against Rick. "I'm so sorry," Noah says to no one in particular as Rick drags Maggie back to the large truck.
Glenn takes Maggie into his arms so Rick can talk to the young man. "Some of us are gonna have to ride on the back," Abraham says.
Daryl picks up Mika and puts her into the cab of the truck. I climb in after her and place Judith in my lap.
"Give her here," Tara says reaching out for the baby. Maggie sits beside me, I don't say anything but I do wrap my arms around her.
She sobs into my chest as she clings to my shirt. I stroke her hair and rub her back. Soon her breathing calms down and she falls asleep.
The sun falls down over the horizon and darkness seeps over the road. I look down at Maggie who is cuddled up in my lap.
Mika is snuggled into my side. Carl is next to her with Judith in his arms and his head on my shoulder with his arm around me and Mika.
I jump slightly as a flash of light erupts from the other side of the cab. Glenn laughs as the light fades.
"You all looked cute with your sleepy faces," he whispers.
Maggie shifts and moves so she's on her left side facing away from Glenn. I rest my head against Carl's. The camera makes a noise and Glenn pulls the photo from the machine.
He shakes it, "Where did you get the camera?" I ask.
"I found it on a run, me and Maggie each have a picture of each other." He passing the photo to me, I smile down at the picture of us.
"When we get to Virginia we can hang this up in the house," I say with a smile.
"Yeah if it's still there," he says, "Oh come on Glenn, you have to have a little faith," I say. "Faith hasn't gotten us very far recently," he mutters. "You can't lose it, if you do there's no point," I say. I can see the smile on Glenn's face as he closes his eyes.
I close my eyes, still holding the picture between my fingers. Everyone is quiet, most are asleep. I've been having trouble with that part lately, nothing has helped me sleep.
