"So why do you want me here with you?" I ask Deanna as I follow her into the kitchen.
Maggie is already sitting at the table, "Because this place has a future. There will be a government here someday and I want you and Maggie working with me. Giving me ideas, helping with the people, making laws, learning how to lead a massive amount of people."
I smile and sit with the two women, "So every morning you spend here with Maggie and I then you go to school for three hours and you come back here to end the day," Deanna says.
Maggie gives me a notebook and clipboard with some printed papers on it.
"You each have people that you'll visit everyday, but most of the time you'll be shadowing me, helping me with charters and such," Deanna says.
A knock sounds on the door, "Elaine, I do want you wearing more professional clothing," she says as she points at my jeans and t-shirt.
I bite my lip, "You'll do fine," Maggie says, "It's an easy job just take notes and visit your people," she says.
I take a deep breath and nod, "Olivia will have some things for you to wear," Maggie says. I nod again as Rick and Michonne come into the room.
We discuss the future of the place and the resources that we have, "Can we talk security?" Rick asks.
Deanna nods, "Of course," she says. Rick cocks his head and we all go outside. Rick leads us to the wall, "We need a constant patrol," he says.
"Not just to check for damage but to make sure no one climbed in from outside. You can shimmy right up the support," Rick says as he stops. "It's what I'd do," he says.
"People are the only real threat now," he says. Deanna takes a deep breath, "I know that you think everyone should be armed within the walls but I can't do that," she says.
"That's fine," Rick mutters, "If you make these changes we won't need to."
"Excuse me," Sasha says, we all turn to the woman, Deanna smiles at her. "I just wanted to volunteer to be one of the lookouts in the clock tower," she says.
Deanna shakes her head, "There are no lookouts in the clock tower," Michonne's eyes widen. "What?" Rick questions.
"I saw someone up there the other day," Sasha says, "That's just an empty rifle my son put up there, he mans it sometimes but there hasn't been a need for that," Deanna says.
Rick shakes his head, "We need a lookout in the tower starting now, 24/7," he says. "I'll take those shifts, as many as possible," Sasha says.
"Why?" Deanna asks her, "She's one of our best shots," Maggie says.
I walk over to the garage that classes are held in after my morning with Deanna. "Come on in," a woman with red hair says.
I smile and walk into the room. There are four tables lined up each with two chairs, "You must be Elaine," she says.
"Is the other new boy coming?" she asks. "Oh no, he opted out of school," I say.
"So he must be seventeen," she says, I nod, "Well, you can have a seat right next to Mikey," she says as she points to a spot at the front table.
"My name is Rosie, by the way," she says as she hands me a gray notebook.
"We use two text books, English and Science, we don't have a math one," she says as she places the two books in front of me.
"How was school?" Carl asks as I walk out of the building.
I smile at him, "It was fine, asshole," I say as I take his hand, "I have shifts in the watch tower," he says. "I figured you'd volunteer," I say.
