Lacey's p.o.v

We drove through the countryside of the island. It's always so beautiful every time we come here. Ma was waiting for us on the pourch . She kissed each cheek ah ughed you twice" flower you grew since the last time I seen you" I blushed and "you minnow you look just like your mother" victoria squealed and embraced her grandmother.

We will have a feast in your honor which ment roasted pig on a spicket and pineapple upside down cake. All the neighbors would come to celebrate and bring some homemade coconut rum. "Can we bring friends ma? We asked she smiled yes bring your beaus " I didn't have the heart to correct her plus Victoria needed a night to forget about her ex husband.

He was a bad person they just grew away from each other at some point. They were more like roommates than a married couple. It still hurt her to see him move on so quickly not even three months and he moved in with his current girlfriend.

James and Lacey's conversation
He picked up after the third ring

James: me already you didn't even sign the papers.

Lacey: get over yourself do we have anything planned for tonight I mean ... event. She could hear him talking to zander .

James: Zander came on we really need to give each other phone numbers so we can talk directly.

Lacey: maybe .,,

Zander: we can meet at five to sign papers and talk but after that your free til tommorrow night.

Lacey: great then you can do me a favor can you be my date tonight it's a get together no suits or loafers. You will insult the natives if your is a suit. So be comfortable if you know what that should be like she jokes he actually laughed.

Zander:yes ,I wasn't born in a suit ,flower

Lacey:flower?

Zander: yes , the nick name suits you. your beautiful when you smile. But you have thorns when needed

Lacey- silence

No one ever called her beautiful before she didn't know how to respond . James fought with Zander on the other side .

James:He loves you lacey put him out of his pain and marry him . Grunts and groans and the line went dead .

Zander's P.O.V

Zander rubbed his aching jaw they had not sparred in ages. His body hummed but his muscles ached with unused muscle.

It reminder of the underground matches he fought in high school and college. He missed The roar of the crowd,adrenaline pumping,and bones cracking.the smell of  popcorn lingered within the old mill that held the events.He was champion for years ,til his father found out, and Made him stop.

That's where he had met William James Taylor. Now known to me as James. He was a scrawny  teen who had anger problems. After his parents death he took up fighting anyone and everyone  . He challenge me one night to a no holds bar match. We went blow for blow for countless of rounds.It was the first tie match alex ever had . They were both equally competitive opponents .They didn't stop til they were a bloody mess. From that day forward they were best friends .

You idiot why you say that now she thinks I'm in love with her . James lying on the floor whipping off the blood from his nose you "still have a good right hook old man laughing .you are but you don't want to admit it ."

Zander didn't know what real love was . His parents where more introstead in their careers than to show love or affection to their kids. So these feeling we're all new to him.

"Ok doctor Phil " Zander groan "you have been reading you teenage sisters magazine again?"

James took out the contact he constructed for the proposal . All emotions welled up in his throat this wasn't real . She was only doing a job nothing concerning him.

Lacey knocked on the door she wore a bright yellow sundress that showed off her tanned skin . Her copper hair flowed down her back and a hibiscus flower in her hair . She looked at peace.

James lay the document in front of them upon the small end table. She scanned the document a small smile lite up her face. " I forgot to tell you we are to share a room her face paled . Only two night a week and you will sleep on the couch ." Done I put out my hand for her to shake. She looked at it if a snake ready to strike at a moments notice. She signed her name at the bottom " you have a girlfriend "I said you have yourself a friend. She blushed and shook my hand.

I wore a polo she picked out and khaki cargo shorts and flip flops as she requested . I really liked that she cared about my appearance to help me . James came out as he always does black T-shirt , black shorts and flip flops. There are more colors other than black.

We walked out as my phone lite up a text from my sister " your in the front page kissing a girl on the plane . Be careful brother. " i open my social media upon my phone to see Lacey and I in a passionate embrace the head line stating" from princess to a toad :how the mighty Alexander gage has fallen. " statments from chantel stating he couldn't find anyone better than me so he slummed it . Meaning he found the lowest person imaginable to be with. Zander's fist clenched James already seen the article.

Lacey smiled at him he wouldn't let her see the article. She drove her Jeep to ma hut . "Ma this is Alex and James they are really big in New York . " the older lady stared them down . " ma , Alex is my ... searching for the right word.... friend . Saved by tadeo !

He came and picked her up once more carrying her away as groom carries his bride. She's squealing for him to put her down. Ma shook her head "that boy still has a thing for her after all these years. Huh Alex? "Her eyes scanning his she nodded and smiled. "Only the rarest flowers bloom in the dead of winter" she walked away humming Elvis "I can't help falling in love with you".

James came over " did Victoria grandmother tell you about flowers blooming in adversity. Alex only smiled as the girls ran across the beach . I understand what she means.

Zander started towards Lacey til I seen a reporter i her face everything went red. Stevens Your not suppose to be here . This is only for natives not tourists. Stevens smiled "Gage you can't keep her all to yourself the world has to know the new flavor of the week is".

"Miss how do you feel to be one of Alexander gages flavor of the week girls"? I seen red as he spoke those words my fists clinched. I punched Stevens in the nose making blood flow it wasn't broken. he will think next time he talks to lacey with disrespect.

There was tears flowing down lacey's face I knew then I had royally messed up.

Victoria glared at me as she steered Lacey away from the scene.

His words is hit its mark .a slow ache spread within her chest.. She would never admit to Alex . how much those words cut her heart and pride. This was just acting nothing more she repeated silently .. as her heart shattered. So I put on a mask to hide my feelings .I had10 days til I'm free togo home to lick my wounds.
