Annabeth's POV
After leaving the infirmary, I quickly pulled Percy aside to talk to him alone. "Peter, could you stay there for a minute, I need to talk with Percy privately." He agreed as Percy and I moved to the side of the building.
"What is it?" He asked me, seemingly annoyed.
"I don't like that he's here," I told him.
"Is it because his name is "Spider-man? He seems like a pretty normal kid, it's just a name, there's nothing very spidery about him."
"No, it's not the name, although that doesn't help, it's just that he's not really supposed to be here."
"Don't you remember what Mr. D said about fate, he might not be a half-blood, but him being here is probably no accident."
"But what if we aren't right about him, and he's not trustworthy, we don't know anything about him."
"Ya, but he doesn't know much about us either."
"We told him that we're half-bloods."
"And he told us that he was abducted by aliens." Percy retorted. "I just think he seems like a good guy, and we should give him a chance. And if he ends up turning on us, he'll still be here, surrounded by demigods. Does that satisfy you?"
"Fine, but where could he stay? He doesn't exactly have a godly parent whose cabin he could sleep in. Also, I don't think it'd be a good idea, in general, to stay with any of the campers. So that means he probably shouldn't stay in the Hermes cabin."
"Ya, I get that." We stood silent for a moment. "What if he stays with me." Percy blurted. "I'm all alone in my cabin and it would mean I could keep an eye on him too?"
"I don't think that's allowed. Poseidon would not be happy about that."
"Let me at least ask my dad." Percy looked up at the sky and closed his eyes. "Hey, dad. would you be ok with someone sleeping in your cabin tonight?" He went silent for a moment. "No, he won't pray to you for an hour every night." He waited for another second. "Fine, he can give his food offerings to you. Thank you so much." Percy opened his eyes and looked back at me. "He said yes."
After Percy took Peter back to his cabin to get settled in, I made my way back to the Big House so that I could talk to Chiron. When I got there I quietly entered the main room. I didn't want to interrupt Chiron if he was doing something important. Chiron was sitting in his magical wheelchair talking to a girl, I knew from a distance exactly who it was, Rachel Elizabeth Dare. She used to be the only mortal who was able to come into Camp, but now that Peter was here, she isn't the only one anymore. Rachel and Chiron were obviously talking about something important because Rachel rarely talks privately with Chiron or Mr. D. I didn't want to intrude, but I ended up listening in on their conversation.
"Thank you so much for keeping the existence of the Avengers and any other magic a secret from the rest of the campers. It would never have been a good thing for them to know." Chiron told Rachel.
"I completely understand, and it was never my place to tell any of them, but what is this about? You've told me this. Years ago, when we first met. It was probably the second this you said to me, only after your name." Rachel knew about the superheroes all this time and never mentioned anything. I guess she was under direct orders from Chiron, but he acted as though he knew nothing as well. I don't understand any reason they would hide this much information from everyone.
"Percy and Annabeth have become aware of the situation." Chiron continued.
"They what? How? Is this somehow my fault?"
"No, Rachel, this has nothing to do with you. There are three reasons that they have found out. All of them today. Ever since the Avenger's existence was made public to the world, no demigods have ever had access to the information, the gods made that very clear." The gods? I thought. So they are behind our lack of knowledge. I knew there was no way we would have avoided everything about these superheroes according to natural means, especially not incoming Half-bloods. This means the gods have taken down this information barrier now. There must be a reason.
"What three reasons?" Rachel asked.
"Well first, a broadcast concerning one of the Avengers was on TV this morning, and while Percy was at home, he happened to see this broadcast." How could Chiron know all of this, Percy didn't say all that, did he? "Also, Annabeth was showing around a new camper today, and he mentioned something about the blip to her. She immediately went to Percy's house where his parents explained at least a little bit about the Avengers to both of them." We definitely didn't tell him that. Where is his information coming from? "Finally, only about an hour and a half ago, an Avenger, themself, came to camp." Chiron finished.
"What? Are you saying an Avenger is here, at camp, right now!" Rachel squealed. "Who is it? Thor? Scarlet Witch? The Winter Soldier?"
"Under normal circumstances, I probably would not tell you, but I'm sure that they would like to meet someone with more knowledge of the world they live in."
"Ok, who is it?" Rachel started to get impatient.
"It's Spider-man."
"Ahhhhhhhh, Spider-man is actually here, at camp!" Chiron put a finger to his mouth telling Rachel to calm down. "Wait, but wouldn't he draw a lot of attention to himself in his suit. He doesn't show his face like the other Avengers. No one knows who he is."
"I'm afraid that is no longer the case. Spider-man's true identity was revealed by someone he claims to be a villain on that broadcast I mentioned earlier, so he is not wearing his suit."
"Ok, but you still haven't really told me why you are telling me all of this. You mentioned it would be nice for Spider-man to talk to a mortal, but I have a feeling that is not the real reason you wanted to talk to me."
"Yes Rachel, you are correct. That is not the reason I called you here. The true reason is to warn you. I'm sure by now you are wondering 'why now?' Why are the gods revealing the Avengers' existence now? My intuition is telling me, it is very likely that we will be getting a new prophecy very soon." A new prophecy. That seems to make sense, but that doesn't sound good. "I'm sure you want to meet Spider-man, so why don't I ask someone who knows where he is, take you there. Annabeth?" He called out to me. "I know you are here, so please, come join us." I slowly, and shamefully walked out of the corner of the room and into sight. "I'm sure you heard us talking. Take a seat."
I pulled out a seat next to Rachel. "You obviously don't want other campers to find out about the Avengers, so why didn't you tell Percy and I not to say anything?"
"I knew you wouldn't. Unless you were talking to your closest friends, I'm referring to the rest of the seven, I was sure you wouldn't say anything about this to anyone else. That's just the kind of people you two are. Now, why don't you take Rachel to Spider-man? I'm sure you came here for more information, and that's what you got, so I believe our business here is concluded." Although I was sure I was talking to Chiron, he seemed much more formal and tense to me. I wonder if this is his way of saying he is disappointed that I was eavesdropping. Whatever the case, I apologized and headed down to Percy's cabin with Rachel.
Reminder--Trials of Apollo and all of its events did not happen. Anything after the Blood of Olympus has no impact on this story (except that Leo has come back and is currently at camp with).
