Peter's POV

I sat on the couch in the Big House next to MJ and Annabeth. We all looked longingly to Chiron who stood, full horse mode, in front of us.

"I had my suspicions after your battle with Kayla, but now I'm sure," Chiron concluded. He looked straight towards MJ, "You have the very rare gift known as 'The Speed of the Messenger.'"

"What's that mean?" MJ asked in her usual blunt fashion.

"Oh, I think I've read about that!" Annabeth started, "the last know half-blood to have that ability was Pharis, the founder of Pharai. He was known to have incredible speed. People claimed to see blurs moving around the city that would manifest into Pharis."

"That is correct, although there have been two other, lesser-known cases since then. It is an extremely rare ability that is rather difficult to control. I have had one student in my many years with this ability, however, it took them months to fully control the power at his original top speed."

"Are you saying I have superspeed? Like Quicksilver?" MJ's eyes began to widen with excitement as she sat up. "I mean, that's cool." She slouched back down on the couch and let out a small chuckle.

"Well, I don't know who Quicksilver is as I have very limited knowledge of superheroes, however, I guess superspeed would be one way to describe the Speed of the Messenger.

"So MJ has a superpower!" I looked at her with a smile. "We could be a crime-fighting team."

"Maybe when you're not a wanted criminal" she jested with a smile.

"Peter," Chiron began, "MJ's ability is not like yours. While it technically could be seen as one, it is not a 'superpower'. She has the speed of her father, Hermes, the messenger god. It is known that all children of Hermes are fast, but the speed that MJ has is not to be taken lightly. It is very powerful and currently unstable." He turned directly towards MJ. "We can't let you run away like you did today. We still don't know how you got back, but you need to learn how to use this speed. Would you allow me to train you personally?"

"You might not call this a superpower, but it definitely is, and I want to learn how to use it. Train me so that I can help Peter get out of the mess he's in." I smiled and leaned my head on MJ's shoulder.

The rest of the day went on as planned. MJ planned to start her special training tomorrow, so we both had the rest of the day open. The semi-finals of the bracket battles weren't scheduled to take place until the next day either. MJ and I spent the last few hours of the day together just relaxing with all our new friends and her new family. It was still crazy to me that MJ was half god, but I was happy to be with her, though I was still worried about my friends and Aunt May. Being in the protected boundaries of Camp Half-Blood was almost too indulging. It was so secluded that all of my worries concerning the outside world nearly vanished as soon as I stepped inside, however, I still needed to save everyone I cared about. I knew I would need to leave this paradise soon.

That night, I awoke suddenly from a strange feeling. 'Something's happening, I can feel it.'  I stepped out of my bed and slowly creaked open the door to peer out of. I saw a silhouette in the distance, standing on top of Half-Blood Hill with a sort of glowing mist around them.

I stepped over to Percy's bed and tapped him on the shoulder. "Percy. Percy, wake up, something is happening outside."

"What are you doing up, it's still dark out." Percy moaned groggily.
