Chapter 29

Azumi sighed as she trailed through San San at a casual pace, blending into the surrounding locals. Nobody would have noticed her if it not for the humongous green-haired man at her side, his unusual looks attracting attention by merely being there. He towered over everybody that they passed, and even though he sent them charming smiles, he was still getting sent looks from all corners of the streets.

"Don't sound so disappointed, my dear~ I'm here to help, you know~?" Jae-ha sulked, turning to Azumi when she let out another deep sigh. Azumi sent him a dark look, warning him to shut up before turning forward once again and glancing discreetly at the buildings around them.

"When Tao asked for my help, that didn't mean the others as well. This was supposed to be a solo mission, " Azumi retorted, brushing back her fringe and letting her tense shoulders loosen as her frustration showed in her expression.

"We were instructed to go out in pairs, so-" Jae-ha rambled, his chest puffed in pride, but Azumi quickly leapt forward to pinch his lips shut. Jae-ha blinked owlishly as Azumi cast a glance over the streets, having led Jae-ha to some back streets without the green-haired male even realising.

"That's great and all, but I'm going to need you to be quiet. We're visiting an old... acquaintance... of mine, and he won't appreciate me bringing a male with me. You must not speak a word when we're in there, even if he asks you something. I will answer everything, got it?" Azumi asked, turning back to Jae-ha with a serious expression and narrowed eyes. When he nodded, Azumi slowly lowered her hands, sending him a warning glare before pushing open the door right beside her. After countless visits to buildings just like this, Jae-ha instantly recognised the fragranced aroma and mood lighting of a red-light district. Jae-ha sent Azumi a look through the corner of his eyes, raising an eyebrow at her, which was blatantly ignored by Azumi who tapped the bell. Quickly, a small girl barely covered by cloth came scampering over, a nervous smile on her lips. She hesitated slightly at the sight of another female, before sending a shaky smile to Jae-ha while her entire face flushed red. Jae-ha hummed in amusement, a smug smirk curling across his lips while Azumi rolled her eyes and studied the girl.

"How may I help you?" the small girl asked, her gaze staying on Jae-ha while fluttering her eyelashes and biting her lip bashfully. Azumi wanted to gag at the sight but ironed her will as she knew she had to do this for Tao.

"I'm looking for Lord Satoshi" Azumi spoke, breaking the girl's trance in an instant. Her bashful expression dropped in record time, the girl's gaze turning to Azumi with a grimace.

"What business do you have with Lord Satoshi?" The girl spoke, barely mustering a whisper while automatically curling her arms around her stomach. Azumi noticed this instinctual movement and narrowed her eyes slightly, before sighing and placing a hand on her heart, ignoring the confused and curious expression on Jae-ha's face.

"I'm an old colleague of his. I have some information to trade, something that will interest him. I know where he resides, so I can lead myself and my friend there. You run along and continue working," Azumi spoke with an even voice, making the girl send her a cautious stare. When she saw that Azumi was being sincere, the girl teared up and hurriedly bowed, her lips trembling with relief.

"Thank you..." She whispered before scampering off once again, a trail of strong perfume and fluttering cloth in her wake.

"I'm not liking the sound of this guy" Jae-ha mused, his smirk long gone and replaced with a worried frown. Azumi finally returned his glance, staring into his eyes before sighing heavily and grabbing onto the tip of his sleeve.

"Jae-ha... For the time being, I'm going to have you pretend to be my husband" Azumi spoke in a hushed tone, making Jae-ha's eyes widen. He stared at her in shock as her cheeks flushed a dusty pink and she averted her eyes with a deep frown set upon her face.
