The only sounds were the thunk of boots, the clank of metal and heavy breaths as the large group of soldiers charged through the streets towards the battle. Azumi was in the lead, her breathing shaking and vision clouded, but the dagger was still clenched in her grasp. Her body was in auto-drive, her systems so numbed by exhaustion and starvation that she was running purely by will. But she didn't care. As long as she got them there, then maybe this nightmare would all be over. She could go find Yona and the others and apologise profusely, but she knew that she didn't regret her actions. No matter how much she missed their reassuring presence, she was glad she didn't bring them to that blood fest. Azumi didn't know what she would do if she ever lost any of them, she had grown far too attached to every single one of them despite her attempts to keep her walls up around them.
The tunnel before them lit up and Azumi realised that they had arrived, causing her teeth to grit and her eyes to narrow. Her body loosened as she prepared herself to split from the group and come in from a new angle, the action catching the soldiers' attention and them also preparing for battle. Azumi glanced over her shoulder, taking one last glance at the humongous group following her, before sending them all a grim nod and throwing herself sharply into another alleyway. The clank of metal brushed passed her as they all sped up, sprinting towards the plaza.
Azumi flung herself up the side of a building, landing soundlessly on the ball of her toes as her head whipped side to side, searching for any mercenaries who were scouting from above. Her presumption was proven correct as there were a couple of nimbler looking men laying in hiding on the roof of the houses surrounding the plaza. Azumi slipped forward, vaulting over roofs and around chimneys as she closed in on her prey without making a sound. She reached the first man and the handle of her stolen blade hit his temple before he could even pick up on her presence; the man slumping down only to be caught by Azumi. She lowered down his head onto the floor and glanced across the roof for anything that could help bind him, only to find her search fruitless. Glancing down at the male, she grimaced before searching his body only to find a couple of coils of rope, probably to secure the crates before they left. A wicked grin pulled across Azumi's lips as she hogtied the male before rushing across the roof once again, a dagger in one hand and coils of rope in the other.
She ignored the sound of conflict down in the plaza, trusting that Soo-won could lead his troops towards victory. Now that she thought back on their interaction, she felt that she had been too harsh, but she only wanted to get her opinion to get through his thick skull. He was so blinded that he wasn't noticing the very obvious hints Azumi gave that she didn't entirely trust him, and it would take a lot more than foolishly running out onto the battlefield to prove his loyalty to her.
Azumi reached the next mercenary, and a cycle began; to knock the man out with the hilt of her blade, hogtie him with her extra rope and sometimes steal more if she needed it, then hurry off to her next victim. As she got into the rhythm of it, her adrenaline started kicking in and her exhaustion wore off to the point where she could move with no spike of pain in her calves. She had just defeated the last man when she heard loud shouting and the battlefield calm down at the voice, causing her eyebrow to raise. Azumi crawled up to the edge of the roof and instantly her entire world froze.
Yanagi stood on a large platform in the middle of the plaza, his face red from anger as he waved his sword in the air. But that wasn't want caused Azumi to freeze. It was the fact that Yoon was in his grasp, the male's face turning blue as Yanagi's grasp around his neck tightened.
"Show yourself Azumi!" Yanagi roared one last time, making a growl erupt from the back of Azumi's throat. Her face became shadowed by her bangs as she rose to her feet, her grasp tightening around the handle of her blade so much that her knuckles turned white. Then, without a second thought, Azumi jumped.
