Jack

"Jack, hurry up" Josh called out. I huffed, helping Eben roll a beer keg in. School had just finished an hour ago and a few guys from the basketball team had come over to help Josh set up before the party.

Me and Eben dropped off the keg in the middle of the room, caching our breath now that we'd finished the heavy lifting. "That was the last one thank god" I breathed out, collapsing next to Josh on his couch.

"How long are your parents out of town for again?" Eben asked, sitting on the other side of Josh. "Don't know, business normally takes longer than they'll admit. My dad left me a credit card and some cash. They said they're flying out for business arrangements for at least a month" Josh replied, playing with the ring on his index finger.

"Wow, that's so dope man. It must be awesome to have this huge place to yourself all the time, you can do whatever you want!" Eben exclaimed, hitting Josh lightly on his back. "Yeah, it's great..." Josh responded, looking off to the side.

I furrowed my eyebrows, noticing he seemed off. "What's wrong?" I asked cautiously. We didn't normally ask each other questions like that, so I didn't know if it would be weird.

Josh cleared his throat. "Nothing man. I uhh, I'm just kinda bummed that I already spent most of the money my dad left me on alcohol for this party tonight" he stated. Although I could tell he was lying, I didn't press him further. "You can just ask him for more, your parents are loaded" I joked, shoving his shoulder. Josh cracked a smile, nodding.

"Yeah man, you right. Besides, this party's gonna be awesome tonight. Guess who I invited?" He questioned, poking me. I shrugged. "Someone you might be interested in seeing..." he prompted. Zach's name suddenly invaded my mind, yet I pushed it aside. "Addison. You know, your ex?" Josh asked me. I let out a sound of realisation.

"Oh right, of course. But why would I want her here?" I questioned. Josh rolled his eyes. "Obviously so you can make her jealous by hooking up with a bunch of hot girls in front of her. You can be so dumb sometimes, Jack" Josh insulted. I glared at him, but didn't say anything back. This was just how we spoke to each other.

"Hey man, do you wanna make a tik tok?" Josh piped up, grabbing his phone out of his back pocket. "That shit's so weird" I retorted, letting out a laugh. Josh rolled his eyes. "Fine, just me and Eben then" Josh mumbled, standing up.

I stood too, leaving the room to go find the rest of the team. All day I'd been trying to distract my mind, to keep my thoughts away from one particular person. I hated that I thought about him so much. It was weird, and it wasn't normal. I just wanted my head to be clear again.

A knock at the door sent me out of my thoughts. I jogged down the hall to unlock it, and as I swung it open I was met with a pleasant surprise. "Kay!" I beamed, pulling the blonde girl into a hug. "What're you doing here?" I asked, a wide smile across my face. She leaned her head against the doorframe, a mischievous look in her eyes.

"None of your business" she replied smirking. I gasped as realisation hit me. "Kay, no..." I warned. She shrugged. "It's fine bro, I'm not getting back together with Josh" she assured me. "That's what you said the other five million times" I mumbled, raising a  playful eyebrow. "Besides, if you guys didn't get back together then why are you here?" I questioned her, my face contorting with confusion.

A sly smirk yet again began to form on Kay's perfect lips. "Just because we're not dating doesn't mean there aren't other things he can offer me" she hummed, sending a wink as she pushed past me to enter the house.

"Josh, someone's here to see you" I yelled out. In a matter of seconds Josh had sprinted over to the door, running a hand though his hair to smoothen it out in the process.

Josh greeted Kay with a short nod before taking her hand and leading her upstairs to his bedroom.

"Just great..."
