The rest of the night was filled with slow progression to larger coasters, eating artery and clogging food. Finally, Millie and I left the ice cream stand with our scoops making our way towards the farris wheel. The final attraction of the night. Millie and I got on together in the same cart waiting for it to start lifting us higher. It eventually stops it's ascent near the top as the power goes off. The odds of that happening were like a million to one.
"Oh shit. You've got to be kidding me. Finnlard, what's the time?" Millie questions.
"Thirty minutes to midnight" I respond. "My dad will be home in the next hour. I really need to go." She panicks. I wrap my arm around her trying to calm her down. "Hey, I'll get you home in time, I promise." I said. Millie stays silent for a while before speaking again."You know, I think it's really nice that our friends are getting along so well." We both stare down at the beautiful lights of the entire city. The sight of Hawkins is so beautiful. It always has been and I can't imagine sharing a moment like this with anyone else.
"It's really sweet of them. They seem to love being apart of something bigger than themselves." I reply. "Do you think you and I were the problem?" She asked. "What do you mean?" I turn my gaze to her. "Well, I spoke to Sadie a few weeks ago at the foodcourt and she asked whether I liked Noah or n..."
"What does you liking Noah have to you and I" I interrupt."God no. Don't make it weird Wolfhard." She pleaded. "And I don't like him. Anyways, I said he was an amazing person to be around with. Then Sadie opened my eyes and I started to think. Noah wasn't an asshole so he had no reason to chill with actual assholes." She explains.
"Lemme guess, that's when the girls started spending more time with the guys?" I add. "Yes but I realized that they were never the problem, we were." She mentioned.
"I get it. We hated each other. Well I never hated you but you hated me." I state.
"You never hated me? Ha!! That's priceless.""Yes. I haven't changed at all since we last spoke." I simply say. "Very interesting, I never knew someone who started being an asshole after he left my life when I needed him the most." She says flatly. "I'm sorry Millie. I was an idiot back then. Immature, childish, stupid, whatever adjective you want me to use. I don't know what came over me." I sighed.
"Your apology isn't good enough Finn. I needed you, I needed my best friend. I was broken and all you did was make things worse. That's why I hated you. Actually I still think I do. I wasn't good enough for you and you showed me that in the best way possible."
"Millie, losing you from my life was like losing my life itself. I couldn't stand being away from you. You've always been my favourite person in whole world, even if I haven't shown it in recent years, I am terribly sorry for hurting your feelings. I do not expect that the situation will immediately become normal. I do not even assume that you will smile to me the way you did before our fallout. But until that happens, I will go on apologizing to you, because you're my everything. Every single day, every minute, for the rest of my life until my very last breath Millie Bobby Brown. Because you're my best friend and that's what best friends do." I say breaking down at this point. I couldn't hide my tears anymore. She had to know that I was being sincere.
Millie also sobbed as she rested her head on my shoulder. "I forgive you Finnie." She whispered. I pulled her close in my embrace. "Promise me Finn. Promise me that you'll never leave me again." She chocked on her tears as she tightened her grip on me. "Millie, I promise to never let you go ever again." I say firmly. I'll forever be happy with our current relationship as long as I don't fall in love with her again.
