The Next Night
Hawkins Mall
22:15
Millie's POVMy dad offered to give me a lift to the mall before heading to the station. Tonight's the night the whole gang celebrates the growth of our friendship circle. "Thanks for the lift dad." I say unbuckling my seatbelt. "No problem kiddo. Enjoy yourself tonight. I'll fetch at two." He says giving me a kiss on the forehead. "Bye dad." I opened the door and got out.
The gang decided to meet at Papa John's Pizza. I was supposed to be here two hours ago but I got held back by the one and only police captain. I hate being the last one to show up.
"Milliiieee!" They all scream as I enter the premises. "Bitcheeessss!" I scream in return. I started apologizing to the others sitting in the establishment for acting inappropriately before joining my friends at the largest table.
"Two whole hours Millie! This idiot was the first person to show up when I got here." Lexi complained referring to Gaten.
"Quit whining, you enjoyed my company. They all do." He clicked glasses with Noah.
"That book of your's will be the end of you Matarazzo." She warned."What book is Lexi talking about?" I asked confused.
"Oh yeah that reminds me. Here's your book man." Caleb says as he slides some book across the table. "Is that what I think it is?" Noah hesitantly asked. "Not exactly. It's The Book of Gaten Matarazzo Presents: The Love Doctor Chronicles Deluxe Edition." Gaten said."What's it about?" Sadie asked. "Nothing absolutely nothing." Caleb answered instantly. "It's a book that teaches men how to get the ladies." Finn snitched. Caleb gave Finn a death glare that none of us have ever seen before. "It's just stupid rules babe. I didn't use any of them." He laughed nervously.
"There's no stupid rules. It's the #1 Hawkins Bestseller." Gaten said which honestly left me suprised. "It's true. No one knows how." Noah backed him up. "So this book is actually a #1 bestseller?" I questioned once again. "In Hawkins." Gaten corrected. "And it has a 100% success rate." He continued.
"No it doesn't. Dude these rules are dumb. It's never worked on anyone." Finn mentioned. "Yes it has, how do you think Jacob got Millie?" He replied shocking everyone at the table. The silence grew louder as no one said anything.
"Are you saying that this book worked on me?" I couldn't believe it. I now have to see this book. "No, I was just kidding." he joked.
The whole table bursted out laughing. I'm so relieved, that could have destroyed me.The whole group has been talking for the last thirty minutes. It was now time for the main event of our celebration. "Speech, speech, speech!" We all chanted in unision while banging the table.
Finn stood up and held his glass in the air. He clicked his glass with a spoon to lower the noise around the table. I find it weird that he clicked a normal glass instead of a wine glass. Is that normal?
"I'd like to thank everyone for being able to pull through to our inaugural friendship celebration!" He raised his voice on the last word. Everyone cheered.
"I personally want to thank Mrs Buono for achieving the impossible. She was able to turn two groups of kids who couldn't stand each other and somehow managed to make them the best of friends. Her detention was more than an intentional punishment. It was a platform that helped produce growth in our friendship circle." He runs out of breath and takes a gulp of his coke.
"Her detention brought us love, trust, loyalty, respect, humour, and most importantly, it brought us a new family. Everybody stood up to gave their applause to Finn. "To family!" He raised his glass. "To family!" Everyone repeated after him as we all start clicking their glasses with one another.
Finn tapped my shoulder. I turned to him and told him he speech was good. "Thanks and hey? We'll be together way sooner than you think." He kissed my cheek before walking to the boys. I couldn't help but beam with joy.
I took some time to admire the bracelet my father gave me. If what my dad said was true then I know that this bracelet will bring nothing but good luck and positive energy to my final year of High School. Finn Wolfhard has such a great affect on me and I can't wait to find out what he has to offer in our next adventure.
