Third pov
If the company noticed Thorin and Raven closer than usual as they packed their things and left, then they didn't comment on it.
It was better than they'd been with each other during the whole journey (mostly because Raven does not take Thorin's shit.)
Raven knew logically that she wouldn't be able to keep her heritage from them forever. But she'd grown to love their group (grumpy king included) and she was hesitant when she thought of their reactions.
She knew for a fact Thorin would not be happy with the revelation considering his reaction to anything having to do with winged fire breathers.
Bilbo might be okay with it.... Maybe....
They traveled for a month before they reached the mountains in their path. It was storming and stone giants had their wars with them in the middle.
It only got worse when they realized they were standing on one.
When Bilbo was nearly lost Raven had felt her heart in her throat. She didn't want to lose anyone she cared about. That fear was somehow enhanced as the stone cut into her hands and knees as she helped pull him and then Thorin up.
"Thought we'd almost lost our burglar."
"He's been lost since he left home." Thorins voice is as cold as the icy rain and as she sees Bilbo's face fall she sends Thorin an equally cold glare at him.
He doesn't care though and continues. "He should never have come. He doesn't belong here."
As everyone piles into the cave a bit further ahead, checking it for orcs and monsters, Raven stays close to Bilbo. "You do belong here." She tells him before going up to Thorin. "We need to talk."
The two goes further in to where it's hard to be heard and she rips into him for his treatment of Bilbo.
"Why do you care so much for the halfling?" He growls.
"Because being told you don't belong with people you obviously care about hurts! He's given up everything to help and you continue to treat him like shit!" She growls right back. "Get your head out of your ass and realize you're acting like an idiot before it's too late."
She stomps off to get some sleep just like the others.
Time skip
Raven woke as they fell. And she screamed as she hit her injured side on the stones on the floor.
Waves of burning pain went through her whole body and for a moment she couldn't breathe. She couldn't breathe. It hurt so bad.
The whole group was manhandled by the goblins into chains. Raven was put into her own and they were whipped and hit and moved over bridges until they were face to face with the ugliest goblin Raven had ever seen.
They were stripped of their weapons as the ugly thing stood up. "Who would be so bold as to come armed into my kingdom? Spies? Thieves? Assasins?"
Raven would probably have made a rude comment if it wasn't for the fact that her side was killing her at the moment. Lindir had been right when he said she'd get hurt. Though she would never willingly tell him that he was right.
"Dwarves and a human, Your Malevolence." A goblin answered.
The ugliest goblin didn't look happy. "Dwarves and a human?"
"We found them on the Front Porch."
"Well, don't just stand there. Search them."
The goblins hurried to do as ordered. But they backed from Raven as she snarled at them and kicked.
"What are you doing in these parts? Speak!"
When no one answered he glared at them. "Very well. If they will not talk, we'll make them squawk. Bring up the mangler. Bring up the bonebreaker."
Goblins all around cheered.
"Start with the youngest."
Thorin stepped forward. "Wait!"
The goblin king obviously recognized him as his face split into a grin. "Well, well, well. Look who it is. Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror, King Under the Mountain." He gave a mock bow. "Oh, but I'm forgetting. You don't have a mountain, and you're not a king. Which makes you nobody, really."
While they talked Raven looked around in a desperate attempt to find a way out of this with all her friends alive.
What she hadn't noticed was that the spell that kept her eyes hidden was no longer in effect...
