Chapter 6: Internal Wars

I felt someone shake my shoulders, telling me to wake up. I grumbled and rolled away from them. I heard a soft laughter but I ignored it, and focused on falling asleep again.
"Lily, wake up." the person said. My brain isn't awake enough for me to figure out who it is. I think it's a man.
"Come on, now." the shaking continued.
"No." I grumbled and snuggled further into my the softness of my bed.
"Come on. Aren't you excited for our date?" I guess it's Alex then.
"No." I grumbled. Trying my best to fall asleep again.
"That hurts, Lily."
"Go away."
"No"
"Piss off."
"No." I growled but ignored them.
"Come on. I told you to get some sleep but instead you decided to stay up watching movies. It's your fault. Now come on, get up." I ignored him, and was close to sleep again when i went extremely cold.
He pulled my blankets off of me.
"You did not just do that." I said through my teeth, but I kept my eyes closed.
"Yep, I sure did. Nice pj's." he laughed, I growled but blushed. I was wearing my batman pyjamas.
"Please Lily, get up. Isabelle will come and help you get ready. Don't make me tickle you."
"Fine whatever." I grumbled and sat up, the sun hurting my eyes.
"I need coffee. Stat." I pointed in the direction i thought Alex was in, my eyes are closed to block out the light. I heard his chuckle and the door close.


"But what if i don't want to wear a dress?" I demanded.
"Lily please, don't be difficult." Isabelle pleaded. She is trying to dress me for my big date with Alex. But she wants me to wear a dress. A DRESS! I don't really do dresses.
"I don't like dresses. Can't I wear my jeans and a t-shirt?" 
"Absolutely not! You have to wear this dress. So either you put it on yourself, or I will force it onto you."
"But Issy-"
"No buts. Now. Go shower and get dressed." with a few stalked into the bathroom to wash away my anger and frustration. As I got out of the shower I noticed the dress bag was hanging on the door. I unzipped the bag and gulped at the dress I was expected to wear.

"There, happy?" I demanded as I walked out of the bathroom. The stupid dress is making me feel naked. It goes just above my knees, and is strapless. It's a pale blue colour and a little bit frilly. I hate it.
"You look amazing Lily!" Isabelle gushed and danced her way over to me. "Here's a little cardigan to keep you warm, and here are your shoes." Heels.
"I am not wearing those shoes."
"Not this again, Lily please-"
"I have never worn heels in my life and I don't plan on starting now."
"Too bad, put them on." She handed me a pair of black strappy heels with a big heel. I’m going fall and embarrass myself, I can already see it happening.
"Whatever," I said sourly and sat on the bed to put them on. I slid my feet into them and stood. I wobbled a little bit and had to grab the bed post to stop myself from falling.
"You look great Lily, come on, it's time to go meet up with Alex." 
"Why don't you just shoot me." I grumbled and Issy gave me a disapproving look but continued walking out of my room. I followed Issy down the stairs wobbling my way down the hall. When I reached the top of the stairs I looked down and saw the loser himself, Alex. He was wearing black suit pants and a white button up shirt. He looked hot, but no way will I ever say that to him.  
“You look beautiful Lily,” he smiled and beckoned for me to descend the stairs. With a gulp I grabbed the railing and walked down the stairs, keeping my eyes on the floor. I heard Issy and Alex’s laughter but I ignored them. When I was flat on the floor I looked up and saw Alex still laughing, well screw him.
“Screw you.” I spat and started walking forward only to trip and fall forward. My face was about the high five the floor but someone grabbed me from behind.
“Careful there Lily,” I steadied myself and looked down at the floor, my cheeks bright red.
“Issy I swear to god I will kill you for making me wear these shoes.”
“Master Alex told me what to dress you in, I simply obliged.”
“Alex, you are so dead too.”
“You know you love me,” he smirked.
“Keep dreaming,” I snorted and slowly started walking forward, Alex walked beside me.
“Where are we even going Alex?” I demanded and turned to face him.
“In here,” he smiled and grabbed my hand, I didn’t stop him because I needed the support to help steady myself.
“You aren’t pulling away,” he smiled and I rolled my eyes.
“I need the support to stop myself from falling, don’t flatter yourself,” his face dropped slightly but then he laughed.
“Ready? Now be good.” He whispered in my ear but before I could ask what he meant the doors opened and I saw where we are. The ballroom, full of many many many vampires.


“Alex what the hell?!” I whisper yelled to him.
“I’m sorry, but this is the ball where everyone meets you.”
“Great, fantastic,” my tone was laced with sarcasm.
“Be good.” He said. I saw Robert standing with two others and he smiled to me, I think that means he forgives me for my attitude last time we met.
He walked towards us and greeted Alex, then turned to me.
“Nice to see you again Lily, you look very nice tonight.” He smiled.
“Thank you,” I smiled and he left. Two others came towards us and by the way everyone’s heads bowed, this is the King and Queen.
“Lily, it is very nice to finally meet you. I am Queen Clarissa. Welcome to the family,” she kissed my cheeks and stepped back. I smiled and said my thank you. The King introduced himself next, as King Victor. 
For ages we just walked, well Alex walked I stumbled, around the ball room, meeting vampire after vampire. After an hour or so Alex whispered in my ear.
“Come with me.” I looked up and nodded, his face turned into another smile and he took my hand and led me out of the hall.
When we reached the first set of stairs he picked me up and I yelped in surprise. He just chuckled and ran up the stairs at vampire speed. I didn’t pay any attention to where we were going until we stopped. Alex put me down and opened a set of big double doors. I looked outside and saw the sunset over the forest, a table set for two was lit by candles on the balcony I now faced.
“Alex what-“
“I promised you a date, here we are. You can take off your shoes if you want to,” he smiled and I didn’t hesitate to slip out my feet.
“Thanks,” I mumbled and moaned when my feet were flat on the ground, how I like it.
“Milady,” he smiled and held the seat out for me. I rolled my eyes and sat down. He took his seat opposite me.
“Do you like it?” He asked, his face one of hesitation and worry. I told him the truth,
“No.” his face dropped.
“Oh, well we can do something else-“
“No Alex, I don’t like it, I love it. Thank you.” I smiled when his face lit up again.
“Don’t do that again,” he laughed and I did too.
“Would you like some wine?” he asked, I nodded and poured me a glass.
“Vampires drink wine?” I asked as he took a sip from his.
“Yeah, we can have human food too, we just prefer blood,” he smiled slightly and I nodded. He reached behind him and pressed something, soft music filled the air around us.
“Will you dance with me Lily?” I hesitated but then nodded and stood.
He put his hands on my waist and I put mine around his neck. We moved in silence to the music, I was having an internal battle with myself. Part of me still hates him but the other part is in love with him. I can’t deny I am getting feelings for him but I don’t want them. I don’t want to love him but I cannot help it. I want to tell him I love him, I want to kiss him right now but I know I can’t, so I put my head on his shoulder and looked out at the sunset so I couldn’t see his lips. I felt his grip tighten slightly on my waist.
“Lily?” 
“Yes?”
“Do you still hate me?” My breathing stopped. What the hell do I say to that.
“Do you?” he asked again.
“I-I don’t know.”
“Well that’s better than a yes I suppose,” he chuckled, our bodies still dancing together. I didn’t say anything but instead just let my eyes close.
“Are you tired?” he whispered in my ear.
“Yeah,” I was overcome by a massive yawn.
“Everyone likes you by the way,” 
“That’s good to hear.” I mumbled. I felt him turn his hands going lower towards my butt and suddenly I was wide awake.
“Whoa there cowboy, what do you think you’re doing?” I demanded stepping back, but not before my face turned red. He just laughed at me.
“I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” He said but I rolled my eyes.
“Damn straight it won’t.”
“You loved it.”
“Like hell I did.”
“Come on, it’s late we should head back inside,” I looked over and sure enough the sun was set and it was completely black over the forest.
“How long were we dancing?”
“A while,” he smiled and took my hand. 
“Come on,” he tugged slightly and we walked back inside, hand in hand. It felt nice.


When we reached my bedroom Alex came in too. 
“Do you want to have a shower or just go to bed?” he asked.
“I’ll have a shower in the morning,” I said, walking over to my cupboard to get some pj’s.
“Can I help you?” I asked, raising one eyebrow at him as he is just standing there watching me.
“Um, yeah er. There’s something I want to ask you…” he trailed off, looking kind of awkward.
“Well spit it out.”
“How many boyfriends have you had?” I laughed, completely taken by surprise.
“Only one.” His face relaxed and he smiled.
“What happend?”
“Nothing. Don't worry. Just leave it.” I said, clenching my jaw and teeth when I thought of my ex boyfriend Derek and what he did to me.
“Ok, i'm sorry I won't pry. Goodnight” He smiled and kissed my cheek, then turned and left me standing there. I quickly  changed into my pj’s. These ones have dragons on them.
I curled up in bed and let the internal battle re-commence. I love him. I hate him. I love him. I hate him. I love him. I hate him. I think I really love him.
