Chapter 1: The Birthday

*Two years later*

I woke with a smile on my face… again. Every time I dream of those eyes, I can’t help but smile. I dream of him some nights, the way he held me, the way he helped me get home. But it always bothers me that he promised me that I would see him again. But that was years ago. I know how stupid it is of me, I only met him once and i'm acting like i'm in love with him. But i'm not, I just felt something with him, it felt right and I felt the sparks when he touched me, god I sound like a crazy person.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!” My mum yelled, barging into my room. My hands automatically went to cover my ears from the sound. My mother is very young, only 33, she had me when she was 15, my father left her when she told him about being pregnant, so I’ve grown up without a father. She was judged by many people for being so young, but she has never once regretted the decision to keep me, and for that I love her even more. I always laugh at my mother’s childish behaviour, I get it from her, and often we act like children together. My eyes dropped to her hands, where she held a big, good looking cake!

“Thanks mum! What kind of cake is that?” Is it really? Can it be?
“Only the best cake in the world! The one from the bakery down the road!” Oh my god! Yay!!
“Oh my god! Gimme gimme gimme!” Bouncing in my bed, I stretched my arms towards the cake. There is a bakery just down the road called 'Peace, Love and Cake' and they have THE best cake in the world. My mum laughed and sat next to me, placing the cake on our legs, and holding out 2 spoons, one for me, and one for her. I scooped up a large spoon full, and shoved it in my mouth.
“MMMMMM! Tgis is sooo goog!” I said, my mouth still full of cake.
“Is it weird that I understood you?” my mother laughed.
“Maybe,” I grinned, showing my teeth. My mum started laughing, Tears forming in her eyes from laughing so hard.
“What’s so funny mum?”
“Your teeth! Are covered in chocolate,” I started laughing with her.

“Come on baby, are you ready yet? We’re going to be late!” my mum complained from downstairs. We’re going out for dinner, to a fancy restaurant, my best friend Mariah is coming too.
“Give me two seconds!” I grabbed my purse off of my desk and put my phone inside. I ran down the stairs in my blue frilly dress and my bluish purple converse.
“You look lovely Lily,” my mother gushed, embracing me in a hug when I reached the flat surface of the floor.
“Thanks mum, you do too,” She was wearing a knee lenth red dress that made her look even younger and even more beautiful.
“Mariah is meeting us there, so let’s go,” my mum said, grinning like a Cheshire cat.

When I stepped out of the car, I felt someone watching me, but when I looked around I saw no-one, so I just shrugged it off. My mind wondered to my sister, I haven't seen her in ages but her boss wouldn't give her the time off work, so I won't see her for a few more weeks. My thoughts were interrupted by a pair of arms wrapping themselves around my waist. I turned my head and saw Mariah with her head on my shoulder.
“Happy birthday babe,” she grinned, “you look beautiful,”
"Thank's babe, you do too," I winked and giggled. Mariah is my best friend of10 years, we practically grew up together. She's wearing a knee lenth pale green dress that hugs her shape nicely at the top then flows out at her waist.
what she did next had me giggling again. She slid down on one knee, and presented me with a ring.
“I love you so much Lily, you make me feel whole, and complete. I cannot imagine a life without you, because you are my life now. Please do me the extraordinary honour and marry me?” she looked up at me through her eyelashes, and she put on the puppy dog face.
“Of course, my love. How could I not when my heart longs for you too?” I grinned at my best friend, and now sort of fiancé. Grinning too, Mariah slid the ring on my finger. She stood and stared into my eyes, and mine into hers. We leaned in so our faces were a mere inch apart, then we couldn’t hold it in any longer, we burst out laughing, my mother including.
“That.was.awesome!” Mariah said between laughs.
“I.know.right!” I replied through laughter.
“You guys. So cute!” Mum gushed. I looked down at the ring, and saw it was a heart locket. I opened it and saw 2 photos inside. Both of Mariah and I. One was a costume party we went to, we went as a vampire couple, and the other was us in our fancy dresses from my mother’s birthday last year.
“I love it, Mariah! Thank you!”
“I’m glad, oh and here’s the rest of your present!” She reached behind her and brought back with her a gift bag.
“You didn’t have to Mariah, this ring and your love is enough,”
“Nonsense, now open it!” she shoved the bag into my hands and waited impatiently.
“Alright, alright,” I said with a roll of my eyes. I peeked into the bag and came face to face with a photo album, and a teddy bear. The teddy was wearing a mini-shirt with a picture of us on it, us pulling really stupid faces.
“Whoa, Mariah this is… Wow,” I dived over to her, and crushed her against me, hugging the life out of her. When I released her, she continued her story.
“I made the t-shirt for you, and I made one for me too. So now we have matching teddies!” We both squeeled and jumped around. We've always made plans to have matching teddies, and now we do!
“I love it so much, thank you! And the photo album too!”
“Come on, put them in the car, and let’s go eat, I’m starving!” My mum yelled from next to me. I had completely forgotten she was here.
“Right, sorry mum,” I smiled and put my things in the car.

Dinner was awesome, I had the spaghetti bolognaise, and my oh my was it finger licking good! We weresaying our goodbyes to Mariah at the restaurant when Mariahs phone started ringing. I waited for her to finish before we left when she hung up she started jumping around and squealing.
"Lily!! We got a gig!!!" I forgot to mention, lily and I are in a band with a couple of our other friends.
"No way!! Where and when?!" I joined her squealing.
"Tomorrow night! My cousin's eighteenth party, the band dropped out, so they want us to do it!!"
"You have to call the others!! We should play second chance, and um, screamin, and what else?!"
"I caught myself, Danny loves all those songs so it's perfect! I'll call the guys when I get home, you go get some sleep!" We grinned and jumped before heading home in different cars.
"We got a gig mum! Can you believe it?!"
"I'm so happy for you honey!" she grinned.
We were in the car driving home when mum got a call. She pulled over to the side of the street to answer it. I didn't get much from this side of the conversation, just some ‘yeahs’ and ‘ohs,’ When she hung up she looked over to me. An apology written all over her face.
“I’m sorry honey, I really am. I have to go to work right now,”
“Don’t worry mum, I already had an awesome birthday,”
“I’ll drop you home now. Thanks sweetie,” I just smiled, but on the inside I was a bit sad.

I watched mum drive off, and then closed the door. I got a glass of water, and then headed to my room to get changed. I decided to have a sower and make myself clean again, then I put on my three quarter lenth trackpants and a tank top, deciding to go practice for the gig. I  plugged my guitar into my amp and played a few chords. I practiced all of my songs and got a message from Mariah telling me to meet them at Danny's house at noon tomorrow. This is gonna be great!



"Ok guys, let's practice I caught myself, yeah?" My band nodded in agreement and we played and practiced for the party.

"Ready guys?" I grinned, before we made our way onto the stage to give some music to the party.

"Hi everyone we are the Flapjacks," I said into the mic before turning to my band.

"Let's do this!" I screamed

"I've never seen anything else

People started to dance to our music.

We kept playing the song and when we finished everyone screamed and cheered, asking for more.

"Thank you, you guys rock! Happy birthday Danny!" I screamed and prepared myself for the next song.

We played songs all through the night until 2:30 Am, then we got a break to have a drink and dance while they used a CD player. I was having an awesome time until I looked through the crowd and saw someone staring at me, a grin on their face. He was gone before I could figure out who it was.

"Thank you guys, you've been great! Hope you had a great birthday Danny and a good time! Thank you, and goodnight!" And with that the we exited the stage and went to home to rest.
"You guys were great!" I squealed, hugging Mariah, Jimmy, and Jake. I'm the singer and lead guitarist in our band, Jimmy is our drummer but sometimes Mariah does the drumming because she is also really good, but usually Jake and mariah are the other guitarists and back up singers. I love our band, the flapjacks.

I went home and showered, I put on some comfortable clothes because i'm not going to sleep yet, no way Jose, i'm still on a high from the gig. The doorbell rang so I skipped down the stairs to answer it. I opened it slowly, and saw a man, or really his size was more of a boy, a teenage boy, his head was hung low.
“Um, hello?” I asked, unsure of who this is. He lifted his head, and made eye contact with me. I gasped and stepped back in shock. His beautiful green eyes bored into mine, and a huge smile spread onto his face when he saw me.
It was him. It was him from the party, and it was him from that day in the woods. Alex.
