Chapter Six
Be my Girl
Lauren
It had been a few days since Quin brought me cough medicine. But he did call and check on me each day that we didn't see each other. I was feeling like a brand new person.
After I took a shower, I slipped on a short strapless, red sun dress. I let my hair hang and put on some gold hoops. I threw on my jean jacket and black Tom's. My phone started to ring. I got it from the night stand. It was my grandmother. "Hello." I answered. "Hey my baby. You still coming over?" she asked. I walked into the living room. "Yes ma'am. I'm about to leave now." I grabbed my car keys from the table. "Okay. See you in a minute." I hung up the phone. I locked the door before leaving out. I placed the key under the mat just in case. I got into my car and started the engine. My cell phone started to ring as I drove from the driveway. It was Quin. I hurried to answer. "Hello."
"What you doing?" he asked. "I'm headed to my grandmother's." I told him. "Aftter you leave, stop by . We need to talk. I'll text you the address." Quin sounded serious. My heart dropped. "Uh...okay. I'll do that." Quin laughed. "Don't be nervous baby. It ain't nothing bad. Now get off the phone while you driving." I smiled. I liked how he called me baby. "Okay, bye." I hung up.
My grandmother's house was only a few blocks away so, it only took a few minutes for me to get there. Anthony's car was parked under the garage. He was always there. I could smell the chicken from outside. "Ma!" I yelled for her as I walked through the door. "I'm in here baby." she yelled back. I walked into the kitchen. Her and Anthony was sitting at the table.
"Where my plate at mama?" I looked at her. "Where it's always at, in the microwave." I took the plate from the microwave. I sat down next to mama. "You ain't been to church with me in a couple Sunday's. Why not?" Grandma asked. I stuck a spoon full of yams into my mouth. "I don't know, I promise I'll go next Sunday." Grandma got up from the table. "We'll see. Y'all hurry up and eat. May Lee on her way to come get me."Anthony looked up. "Where you think you going?" Grandma laughed. "You worried bout the wrong thing." she coughed. "Let me get out these clothes." She left from the kitchen. I continued to eat. "So, what's up with you and ole dude?" Anthony asked me. He took a bite of his chicken. "We cool. I'm going to get him after I leave here." He nodded. We were silent for a moment. "What's up with you and Sarah?" I asked him. He chuckled a little. "She cool as fuck. We went out. I think I want her to be mine." I shook my head. "And she ain't told me nothing." Anthony got up from the table. "Get on her ass." he placed his plate in the sink. "You want some kool-aid?" I shook my head yes as I chewed.
I heard thunder coming from outdoors. "It's about to throw down. And I'm going straight to yo house." Anthony handed me a glass of kool-aid. I finished up eating and drunk it. Grandma walked back into the kitchen. "It's bout to get bad mama. You don't need to be out in this type of weather." I told her. She laughed. "A little rain can't stop ya girl from turnin' up." Anthony and I laughed at her. "Gran where you learn that from?" Anthony asked her. "Boy I be in these streets, what you mean?" We cried laughing at grandma. She always knew how to make somebody laugh. "I'm going to leave off that one mama." I got up from the table. I put my dishes in the sink. "See ya later." I hugged and kissed her. "A'ight my nigga." She laughed before I did. Anthony nearly choked. "You watch too much TV." he said. Anthony and I left. I checked my phone to look at the address Quin had sent me. The address was located in the most dangerous hood in Atlanta.
I called Quin. He answered on the third ring. "What's up?" I could hear loud talking in the background. "You got me driving to the most dangerous hood in the A." I told him. "Don't be scared. Ain't nobody gon' mess with you." I sighed. "Well, I'll be there in about ten minutes."
