                   Chapter Twelve
                   A Good Heart

   Quin

"Man, hell yeah. Lauren handled her ass like a man."  Myles was telling Tray about Saturday night. I was tired of hearing about it. But I was glad Lauren beat her ass. "It's about time somebody shut her damn mouth." Tray said. I took another hit of the blunt and passed it back to Myles.

"So, you serious about getting back in the studio?" Tray asked. I leaned back in the chair. "Yeah, I'm serious this time." And I was serious. I didn't know whether I would succeed or not. I just prayed for the best. "Good. You gotta do something with that talent. I bet Lauren talked you into doing this." Myles said. I laughed. I couldn't even deny it. I told him yeah. "I knew it."

I got up from the chair. "Man, just run the same beat." I walked over to the other side of the glass. I put the headphones on. When the beat dropped, I started to rap.

    Lauren

It had been two days since the incident at the club. The swellen on my lip had went away and I felt much better. "Do you like it?" I asked my customer as I spun her around to face the mirror. "Do I like it? Girl, I love it!" She smiled at herself in the mirror. She handed me the money and I stuck it in my purse. When she left, I sat down in the chair.

KaTrece and Sarah was still doing hair. "Will y'all lock up for me? I need to get home." I knew I sounded grumpy and tired. "Sure baby." KaTrece said. "I'll be over when I leave." Sarah told me. I nodded my head as I got up from the chair. I grabbed my car keys and purse. I kissed KaTrece on the cheek before leaving out.

As I was walking out of my shop, I saw a man sitting on the curb. I walked across the street to see what was the matter with him because something told me to. "Excuse me." I tapped him on the shoulder. He looked up at me, then looked back down. I knew if I left him there, I wouldn't have been able to sleep. Besides, my grandma raised me better. "Looks like you have no where to go. I don't know yo situation but I just want to help.  And I know if I leave you here tonight, I won't get any sleep. And it's getting cold out here. Just come with me, please." The guy sighed. Surprisingly, he stood up. He was very tall, at least six foot six. I felt short.

He followed me to my car. When I unlocked the doors, we got in. "Don't try anything cause I'm strapped." I told him as I crunk up my car. He just igonred me. The whole ride to my home was silent. An awkward silence of course.

"I really do appreciate you doing this for me." They guy finally talked as we entered the kitchen. His voice was so deep. "I don't mind. I have three extra bedrooms that I don't use." I turned around to look at him. I must say, he was very handsome. He had a caramel complexion, curly hair, hazel eyes, and dark lips. "What happened to your neck?" I looked at the deep cut on his neck that was still bleeding. "Well, after I caught my girl in bed with my brother, she kicked me out. Right afterwards, I was robbed. My car is in the shop and I'm pretty sure I lost my job. My parents and sister stay out of town. I don't want them to see me like this."

I felt sorry for him. "Well as long as I have a home, you have a place to stay. Let me get something for that cut. I had no idea why I was helping a stranger. It just felt like the right thing to do. I went into my bathroom and grabbed a towel, rag, alcohol, and peroxide. I went back into the kitchen.

"Take your jacket and shirt off." I told him. He took it off. He had nice abs and large muscles. "You work out a lot?" I asked him as I poured a little peroxide on the cut. "Yeah." I wiped it with the towel. I poured a little alcohol on the rag and patted the cut with it. He flinched. "I'm sorry."
