Chapter Seventeen
A bloody New Year
Lauren
"Girl we still going out tonight?" KaTrece asked through the phone. "You already know. But call me back a little bit later, I'm just waking up." I told her. "Girl it's almost two o'clock. You pitiful." I laughed at her before hanging up. We were planning to hit up the club to bring in the new year, 2015! Y'all needs to be in church. Gran's voice sounded in my head.
"Who was that babe?" Quin rolled over on top of me. "Trece." I stretched. Quin started to kiss on my breast. "Stop! I'm still tired from this morning." He laughed at me. "I lays it down." I switched on the TV. Looney Tunes was on, one of my favorite cartoon shows. "You're such a baby." Quin said as he got up from the bed. "Boy you know you be watching cartoons." I watched him as he slid on his shoes and jacket. "I gotta make a few moves babe, see ya later." Quin pecked my lips before leaving.
Lilly came into my room, whining for me to pick her up. I leaned down and picked her up. I laid her in my lap and she got comfortable. I love my little Lilly. Anthony walked into my room without knocking. "Glad i wasn't naked." He sighed as he laid down next to me. "Sarah's pregnant." I felt excitement boil inside of me. Unbelievable! "Are you serious?!" I sat up. Anthony nodded his head. "Yes. She's two months. Man, I don't know how to take care of a baby."
"Awe, you're just nervous. You'll learn how to take care of a baby, be quiet! You need to be there for her. She's the one that should be scared. Are you happy?" He smiled at me. "Yeah. I'm excited. And before you ask, yes I am treating her right. I been cut off all them ho's. Don't say nothing, she doesn't want anyone to know yet." I was just about to ask him that question. I hoped he was being honest. I nodded my head. "I won't." We laid there for a while, talking about Sarah and the baby.
"I got a bad feeling about tonight." I said as I got up from the bed. "We got you. Ain't nobody gonna do nothing to you." Anthony said, flipping through the channels. I grabbed my Minute Maid peach juice and cool ranch Doritos from my small refrigerator. "You know you greedy as hell when you got a refrigerator in ya room." Anthony laughed. I threw a comb at him. "Shut up."
Anthony stayed and watched TV with me for a little while before he went to go check up on Sarah. I was happy for the both of them. I wanted kids, just not at that moment. Especially with all the stuff that was going on.
When ten o'clock hit, I took a shower, brushed my teeth, and curled my hair. I slid on my cotton candy pink dress that showed off my legs and curves. I looked hella sexy! Tiara walked into my bedroom. "Hey, I'm just getting in. I'm about to go shower. You look hot by the way." Tiara had been out with Shemika and a few of her friends. "Thank you boo and how was it?" I asked her. "It was nice. Shemika's friends are real nice too, and funny." She laughed. "That's good." She smiled at me before walking out.
I went into the kitchen. I heard a noise coming from the den. My heart dropped when I felt someone standing behind me. I quickly turned around. The person hit me in the head with a metal baseball bat. I cried out in pain as I fell to the floor. It felt as if someone had dropped a brick on my head. The person stood over me and pointed a gun at me. I just knew my life was about to end. I felt a bullet fly through my stomach, my chest, and my shoulder. My eye sight started to get blurry. I was short of breath. I blanked out.
Tiara
As I was taking off my shoes, I heard loud gun shots. My body felt num. I quickly walked out of my bedroom. I could see the front door open from down the hall. I ran into the kitchen, Lauren wasn't there. I went into the den. There she was. Lying in blood. Her chest was slowly rising up and back down. I started to cry. Who in the hell would do this? I grabbed my phone from my pocket. I could barely dial the numbers because I was shaking.
"911, what's your emergency?" A lady answered. "There's been a shooting. I need an ambulance, quick!"
"Okay ma'am. We need your address." I gave the lady the address. "Help is on the way." The line went dead.
I dropped down next to Lauren. Her dress was soaked in blood. Blood ran from her mouth. I held Lauren in my arms. "Stay with me sis. They're on the way." I kissed her forehead. Two minutes had passed and I started to hear sirens. They quickly into the house. Two white men took Lauren from my arms and carefully laid her on the stretcher. They hurried out of the house.
I grabbed Lauren's keys from the table and followed the ambulance, going at the same speed. I was praying the whole way, asking God to let Lauren be okay. I felt terrible. I called gran, Rashad, Quin, and Anthony, telling them what happened.
The doctors rushed Lauren down the hall. They instantly started to hook up IV's. "Ma'am, you're gonna have to wait in the waiting room." The nurse stopped me. I went into the waiting room and sat down. Anthony and Rashad walked in, out of breath. "What happened?" Anthony asked. Both of them had a furious look on their faces. "Well, I was in my room when I heard gunshots. I found Lauren in the den, soaked in blood." I explained to them. He started to cry. "If I find out Quin had anything to with this, that's his ass." Rashad didn't say anything, he just sat down and buried his face in his hands.
Moments later, Ms Lillian, Quin, dad, KaTrece, and Sarah came. I explained to them what I heard and seen. "Who would want to do something like that to my baby?" Ms Lillian cried. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!" Sarah yelled in Quin's face. A whole bunch of commotion started to go on between them and KaTrece. Rashad looked up with a face full of tears. "Are y'all serious? Lauren is fighting for her life and y'all arguing. Chill out." He put his head back down. Everything went quiet again. Sad...sad...sad.
We all patiently waited for four hours until the doctor came with results. "Family of Lauren Stewart." Ms Lillian quickly stood up. "We're all her family." He nodded. "Okay. Ms Stewart had bullet wounds to the chest, stomach, and shoulder. Must've been a miracle because it didn't kill her. We had to take her into surgery immediately to remove the bullets. That went well. It seems she was hitten in the head with a brick or metal bat, which caused her to go unconscious. She's stable, and should recover soon."
Rashad got up and stormed out of the waiting room. Anthony followed behind him. "Can we see her?" I asked the doctor. "Yes. Only two at a time, please." My dad and Ms Lillian said they couldn't see her like that, so they left. Sarah and I decided to go together.
I was really heartbroken when I seen Lauren laid up in the hospital bed. She had a mask over her face and needles in her arms. There was a white cloth wrapped around her head. Sarah rubbed her cheek and started to cry. "I'm sorry Lauren. I'm so sorry." I sat down next to Lauren's bed and grabbed her hand. It was cold.
"I gotta go Tiara." Sarah said before leaving out. Seconds later, Quin walked in. He just stood and stared at Lauren. "I tried to keep her safe." He said dryly. "But I failed. I'm sorry. But whoever did this, consider them already dead." A tear fell from his eye. This is so fucked up! Quin and I stayed until the nurse made us leave. I went to Gran's house instead of home. I knew she needed somebody to be there for her. And I needed someone to comfort me.
"Well, I didn't want to see my baby like that. My heart is aching. But I know she'll recover, she's strong. Just pray baby, and watch how God work." Gran said as she laid down beside me. I didn't want to sleep alone, so I decided to sleep with her. "I love you gran." She smiled at me. "I love you too baby. I hope you don't snore cause I need to watch LMN." I laughed. I said a prayer for Lauren. My mind was on her, so I couldn't sleep.
