POV: RIVER-
My heart pounded as I ran down the steps.
I flung open the the front door and stepped out to feel the cold wind hit my face. I took a glance behind me to see if Bryant had been following me, he hadn't been.
I pulled on my sweatshirt that I managed to grab while running out. I pulled my hood up and stuffed my hands in my pockets, not wanting to run into anyone who would've tried talking to me, even though there was nobody in sight and almost all the houses were dark, except one.
The house at the end of the gravel path had their porch light on and maybe a few bedrooms.
I remembered the house belong to Xavier and Jen.I put my hood down and walked up the steps. I pressed my finger to the doorbell and a soft ding rang throughout the house. I could hear faint voices and laughing. Within a moments time Jen opened the door.
"Hi, what's up?" She said, probably noticing my worries expression.
"Something happened, Do you mind if I come in?"
I asked touching my hand to my neck. She smiled nodding and held the door wide open.
I stepped in seeing Xavier, Collin and Monica holding cards around the dinning room table.
"Bullshit." Collin said squinting his eyes staring directly at Monica.
She huffed and picked up the cards in the middle of the table.
"You always manage to cheat at this game, don't you? Why can't you just play for fun?"
Collin let out a belly laugh. "Don't be jealous because you're losing, green looks bad on you."
Xavier cupped his hand to his mouth, attempting to not laugh at his comment. He looked up and we made eye contact.
He dropped his hand from his mouth. "Hi Luna."
They all turned their attention to me, repeating their obnoxious "Hi Luna."
I rolled my eyes and held up my hands up in a mocking tone.
"You know I'm just River, I'm not a Luna. Just River."
Collin turned his attention to his mate while he reorganized his cards in his hands. "Why can't you be just Monica. I think I'd love you a lot more if you you were just Monica. Is it too late to change your name?"
"You know what-" Monica said laying her cards down and crossing her hands on the table.
Jen swooped in at the right moment and grabbed me by the elbow. Leading me to their side kitchen that was far enough away that we could have some privacy.
Their kitchen was gorgeous like the rest of the house. The cabinets were gray with a marble off white counter, stainless steel washer and fridge, a huge island in the middle and of course the beautiful glass light textures like in the pack house.
I pulled a gray cushioned bar stool from underneath the island and sat down while Jen took a seat from across from me.
"Are they having issues?" I said trying to speak softly as I could, knowing even a regular voice could be picked up by a wolf.
