Part of me yearned for her to come back. The other part told me that we'd meet again someday.

Myles' POV
Bri? Is that Briar Nolet?

Everything almost slowed down to a halt the moment I saw her. Her gentle blue gaze met mine. I carefully took in her new appearance. Shimmering blonde hair loosely tied back into a ponytail trailing down her back. Her lips slightly parted in surprise. In her arms were her books for what ever class she was headed to.

I turn away, breathing heavily. She was still staring after me when I snuck another glance towards her. Rounding the corner, the spell was broken.

I never expected to see Briar again after five years.

~flashback~

The cool autumn breeze drifted through the leaves. It's still sunny outside for such a chilly day, I thought. I leaned against the rough bark of the tree, panting.

Briar was somewhere in the house searching for me, but I decided to hide outside. Right below our treehouse. My parents built the treehouse for my ninth birthday and it still looked the same four years after that. Many of my backyard adventures were spent in this very treehouse with Bri. Occasionally, my older brother Tyson would come up there with us, but he didn't enjoy being up so high from the ground.

"Mylo!" a shrill voice cut through the silence.

I immediately straighten up at the sound of her voice. She called out for me again, but of course, I gave no reply. A few minutes passed by and she still hadn't found me. Was it really that difficult?

I heard leaves crackle behind me and before I knew what was happening, my feet left the ground. Oh she didn't do this to me. I rolled over so suddenly that her body fell off my back and onto the grass with a thump. I edge closer to her, my body hovering over hers. She remained frozen under me, her eyes wide with incredulity. A smirk was plastered across her face.

"Gotcha Bri," I teased and I pulled away, collapsing onto the ground beside her.

"There's something I've been meaning to talk to you about," she said with a serious tone, all her playfulness gone.

"What is there to talk about?" I ask uncertainly.

Briar turned her face to mine and mumbled something with the words "leaving soon".
Is she really –

I must have looked confused after she told me, so she repeated herself again.

"Myles, my family is planning on leaving Toronto soon."

My stomach dropped. She's not moving. I must be dreaming. I tore my eyes away from hers and stared at the clouds. The random wisps of white streaked across the sky like a painting. It's already difficult to process that my best friend is going. Even meeting her eyes makes me feel even more unsettled.

"How soon?" I exhaled, relieved that I finally got my words out.

"Next week on Sunday. I know you've got acting classes in the morning so maybe come by and see me before I go," she suggested.

It was convenient that we lived across the road from each other. Otherwise, how would we be able to visit each other so often?

"Of course, Bri. Sunday morning, I'll be there."

It's been a while since I've updated, so sorry for the delay guys!

I hope you won't be disappointed by this chapter because I've been trying to incorporate some new techniques into my writing to improve it.
