It's the little things in life that matter the most.
Briar's POV
As usual, Myles is already at my locker after school. Somehow he manages to get there before me, even the days where I hurry out of class the moment the bell rings. This guy seems to have his own ways of getting around that I haven't asked him about."Hey, do you want to come with me to a café for brunch on Saturday?"
I blinked, feeling confused. Oh boy.
He ran his hand through his hair. "Look Bri, it won't be just us. You'll meet my best friend, Kolton there. Oh and his girlfriend will be there too, so you won't be outnumbered."
I've only been back for a bit more than a month, and I probably need to explore my options for my friendships. Not saying that Berkeley's group aren't my friends, it's just a good thing to get out there and meet new people.
"Alright, I'll go," and Myles looked relieved at my answer.
~Saturday morning~
My phone dings with a new notification. I lift my phone up to see that it's from Myles.
Mylo
do u want me to drive u to the café?
if you're fine with it, then sure
text me ur address :)
After I sent him my address, I continued doing my makeup. I didn't want to be too over the top, so I decided to do minimal: foundation, mascara, concealer, lip gloss and a bit of blush. Then I give my hair a quick brush.
It had only been ten minutes and the doorbell rang. I grab my shoulder bag and checked that I had everything before hurrying downstairs. By the time I made it to the last step, my mum had answered the door already.
"Myles! Look at you now, you've grown so much!'
"Thanks Tam."
When I stepped into view, she turned around. "Briar, you didn't tell me that Myles was coming."
"Oh he's here so he can pick me up to go for brunch."
"Brunch? Well, you two go have fun on your date!"
Immediately, I felt my cheeks heat up. Even Myles looked slightly flustered. Did she really have to say this in front of him?
"Muuuuum, it's not a date. He's taking me out to met his friends," I whined, causing Myles to laugh, but I silenced him with a dark look.
"It was good to see you again, Tam." Myles held the door open for me, and my mum smiled.
We were in his car when he finally spoke. "It's weird that your mum assumed we were going on a date."
"So weird," I echoed. "You and me together? I wouldn't mind it."
"What?"
"Never mind."
I don't know whether he actually heard me say that. Actually, I didn't want him to hear that at all.
We didn't talk again for the rest of the drive. There was a strange feeling that I couldn't shake myself out of.At the café, I'm immediately met with a sudden blow of colours. All the walls are bright and colourful, giving off a happy vibe. By the doorway, there are several abstract paintings that almost blend in with the wall. The tables and the counter are completely different: they're a dark brown colour.
A boy with close cropped curls approached us with a huge grin. "So you're the girl Myles keeps talking about."
Myles elbowed him in the ribs, and he pretends to double back in pain.
"It's Kolton, by the way."
I was then introduced to Kolton's girlfriend, Kiara. She rolled her eyes at him affectionately while he was speaking. Kiara had a short brown bob that just passed her ears and freckles that were dotted on her nose. To me, she seemed like the no-nonsense type - those girls who are quite serious about everything.
We all got into a deep conversation after we placed an order for our food. It was mainly Kolton and Kiara debating whether he should perform at a different venue because the current one isn't big enough. Occasionally, Myles and I tried to chip in, but they already had their own thing going.
An hour later, we're all saying our goodbyes. As Kiara leaned in to hug me, she whispered something in my ear.
"If you think you've got a chance with him, think again. 'Cause he's not into girls like you."
"That's such a shame. I didn't even ask, Kiara," I met her eyes with a cool glare. (a/n don't know whether you guys understood my reference there, so...)
Without a word, Kiara smirked at me and went after Kolton.
This chapter took forever for me to write, not gonna lie. I didn't really plan out how this chapter would go so I kept deleting parts and rewriting until I felt it was actually reasonable enough to publish. Here you go!
