What happens, happens for a reason.
Myles' POV
Briar seemed a little tense when I gave her a hug before I let her go into her house. Her face didn't give off the radiant energy it usually did. I tried to ask her what was wrong, but she already made her way to her front door. I hope she's okay. I reached into the back pocket of my jeans and fumbled with my phone. After a few minutes I sent her a text asking if she's okay."Myles!"
I shoved my phone into my pocket and looked around. There he was. A grinning Kolton stood at the doorstep.
"Hey man," I walked over to him. Bumping my fist to his, he slung an arm around my shoulder and dragged me into his house.
As a frequent visitor to Kolton's house, it hasn't changed the slightest since the day I first came over. The walls were mostly bare and didn't have any photos from his childhood. Instead there were a few framed quotes from the Bible. His dad is quite a religious person. Besides that, the house was well kept.
"Where's Kiara?" Kolton let go from me and shrugged.
"She's on her way here."
"Knowing her, I thought she'd be here with you."
He clamped his hands together. "She said she had a little something to do first. Anyway, I'm gonna go grab some snacks."
I settled down onto the couch, which sunk a little under my weight. My phone buzzed. I tugged it out from my pocket. On the screen was a message from her.
"Not feeling the best right now?" I read aloud. Maybe that was why she was acting strangely when I dropped her off at her place. Deep down, something tells me that it's not the full story. Now this makes me more worried. I chose not to reply to her text and resorted to calling her.
The dial tone continued to beep into my ear. "Come on Bri, pickup your phone."
It seemed like forever until, "The person you are calling is not available. Please leave a –"
With a frustrated sigh, I tossed my phone across the couch.
"About time you turned up Myles."
I narrowed my eyes at Kiara. "About time you turned up."
"What were you doing before you got here?
"I was with Bri."
"Bri, you say?"
"Yeah," I paused. "What? Do you have a problem with her being my girlfriend?"
"Of course not," she huffed, tossing her hair back. When Kiara acts like this, clearly something's up. I've known her for long enough. We have somewhat of a history. Although not as long as Briar and I. To this day, I refuse to think about what we did. We were fourteen and reckless. This was before she and Kolton met. I can't read her emotions as easily as I used to, but it's clear to me that she's unhappy.
"Kiara..." I started as Kolton suddenly reappeared in the doorway.
She sprung up from the couch and jumped into his arms. Kolton nearly toppled over in surprise, but quickly regained his composure. I turned away. Kiara is the most confusing person I've met. One moment she's mad and then she's all happy again.
So, Kiara's going through one of those days with crazy mood swings, and Briar is supposedly not feeling well. My mind is so done with everything from today.
What do you think happened in Myles and Kiara's past? I would tell you what I think, but that means spoiling the story, so I'm keeping my mouth shut. Another question I'll leave you guys with: why did Kiara arrive at Kolton's house late?
Anyway, enjoy your morning/night (whenever you're reading this)!
