I wish I could let you love me now

Not a single day went by without Briar or Myles wondering about each other. At times like these, she'd try to fight those thoughts away. It was hard to convince herself that he doesn't care about her anymore: Briar still cared for him very much. Acting like nothing had ever happened between them was awkward. Especially when people always fawned over them at school.

It was no secret that the two had broken up. Instead of being bombarded with questions, Berkeley just took Briar in her arms and held her silently. She knew not to ask, as Briar would speak when she felt ready. The entire day, Briar couldn't help but feel a little guilty about having Berkeley being her companion throughout the hallways and in classes. Tossing her issues onto Berkeley was one thing, but it now occured to her that she should check in on her friend.

"Berks, are you sure you're alright? I feel bad for making you having to deal with-"

She held a hand up and said, "It's fine Bri. I'm here for you and that's what matters, okay?"

A muted Briar simply nodded in agreement. Sometimes she didn't need to be so apologetic, even when people like Berkeley are just trying to help her.

It wasn't a surprise that Kolton still talked to her (not that she expected Myles to tell him not to). She and Kolton had struck up a strong friendship in the past week, and she was grateful for that. He managed to get her mind off of things whenever he was around. Even Kiara was surprised about the new friendship, but Kolton stopped her from intervening.

After all, he told her that "not everything is her business". Sometimes, she just needs to trust Kolton on doing the right thing.
Isn't that what she always wanted in a relationship?
Trust?

Kiara stared at her reflection in the mirror. Lately dark circles had appeared under her eyes. Every night she struggled to fall asleep because her mind was still active with so many thoughts.

The landlord was yet to kick her family out of the house. With one working mother, and the father is nowhere to be seen, she had to take a lot more responsibility now. Starting with her little brother, who was only seven years old, and needed a motherly figure around more than she did. As much as her mother worked, it never seemed enough to pay off the overdue bills and rent.

Myles and Kolton knew about her family situation, but she never let them know how bad it had gotten. Although Kolton did help with looking after my brother from time to time, and she was grateful for that.

If only things were fine like it was two years ago...

Hey, I updated! I sort of left this story hanging from where I last updated, so this chapter was written from a third person point of view. Hope you enjoyed reading it🥰
