You and I will never ever be the same

Myles's POV

Lately Kiara's been on and off. I could see it in her eyes whenever I talked to her. Even Kolton seemed a little worn out. It's nothing to do with their relationship, it's been tough for Kiara. There's more to it, but she refuses to tell either of us. We'd both gladly help her. If only she'd let us though.

The doorbell dings as I enter Junior's. All I wanted was a double espresso with a slice of apple crumble, but no. Once I saw her, I struggled to avert my eyes. A mental battle of not catching her attention was tough. At least she was deep in conversation with Kolton. I wasn't sure how to react. I know that they're friends now, but I feel lost again.

I finally turn away, and head towards the counter. The barista tosses his tea towel onto his shoulder and asks what I want to order. I tell him, then hand over my money to pay. His register clicks open and he passes my change to me.

"Thanks," I say as he moves over to the coffee machine.

My eyes flit over to Briar. This time, she catches my gaze. Shit.

However, there's nothing in her expression besides pure shock. I don't bother going over to her table. I knew better than that. After all, the bakery experience didn't end well...

I continue watching her once she begins talking to Kolton again. A minute later, they both stand up and slide their chairs back under the table. I nod at Kolton as he passes by with a grimace. Briar breezes past, not a single glance in my direction.

I've got something in the works for her. A song that I started a while ago, but I recently picked it up and carried on writing. The lyrics aren't final and no one, not even Kolton, knows about this. I want her to see what she means to me, and I can't just perform it any day for her. I need to make this special.

"Double espresso and a slice of apple crumble!"

I'm snapped from my thoughts, and I thank the barista when he gives me my coffee and my slice.

My stomach rumbles. I take a bite from the apple crumble, savouring the sweetness in my mouth. Junior's never fail to please me with their apple crumbles.

I wasn't thinking about food when writing this chapter, I swear!

I promise I'll get to more of Bryles soon, this was kind of a filler chapter. Also, I don't think there's long until the end anyways...

Have a good weekend everyone :D
